Reviviremos con ustedes el Warm Up interpretado en el evento Beyond BlackDance 29 de Junio del 2022, noche de cierre del evento Road to BlackDance Festival. Ese miércoles Varju cargó la pista de baile de Video Club con una cuidadosa selección de tracks para entregar el público a la artista principal de la noche, Adriana Lopez. 

Reconocido por su trabajo de booker y productor de eventos en Bogotá, Varju ha realizado un exhaustivo trabajo en la capital en torno al techno y sus variantes hipnóticas y más crudas. En los últimos 7 años de trabajo ha traído un extenso número de artistas internacionales y le ha dado la oportunidad más de 100 djs nacionales de mostrar su trabajo y arte en los eventos que ha dirigido.

Actualmente es co-productor y Booking Agent del evento BlackDance Bgta, que en solo 2 años ha logrado plasmarse como una de las fiestas y festivales más característicos del género dentro de la ciudad, trayendo djs como: Oscar Mulero, Adriana Lopez, Dasha Rush, The Advent, Takaaki Itoh, Peter Van Hoesen, entre muchos otros.

Being both born and bred in Los Angeles is a bit of a rare thing according to Moe Espinoza who has produced and performed music under the name of Drumcell for the last 20 years of his life. He calls it a ‘city of transplants’ a place where people from all corners of the United States (indeed the world) come together seeking out a life for themselves. However, for some time residents of the city who were drawn to the emerging sound of house and techno in the 90s found themselves to be direly lacking in environments to engage in this sound. Espinoza himself was more than aware of this problem after being drawn into the genre from his very first rave experience, so as part of the crew Droid Behaviour he established a network of party goers and artists putting on techno parties in LA’s vast expanse of warehouse spaces. To the credit of his hard work, the scene has flourished and in recent years putting the city on the map for international artists alongside the more traditionally renowned spots for electronics, Minneapolis and Detroit.

But for Espinoza it’s always been about the actual creation of music, this is where his drive has always been. There are many layers to his capabilities, too. Drumcell and Droid Behaviour have always been about techno made for the dancefloor and the bringing of souls together, yet his live project Hypoxia and newer label BL_K Noise explores a much more introverted, experimental and immersive potential to his aesthetic.

We have a huge amount of respect for not only his audial ethos but also for the dedication he’s shown to bringing the spirit of techno to his home city. So, ahead of his debut in Room Two this coming Saturday night we felt it important to share his story and his style of selections in this interview and exclusive promo mix.

Keepsakes, the moniker of British-Kiwi producer and DJ James Barrett, has been going from strength to strength in the murky world of techno in the past few years. With EPs pressed to wax on Ansome and Ossian’s South London Analogue Material and Germany’s Mindcut, appearances on the last two instalments of Mord’s Herdersmat compilations, plus European tours in 2016 and 2017, Keepsakes has been working hard to push his crunchy sound and diverse DJ sets internationally.

Born in Warsaw, Michal has been closely associated with the club culture of the capital of Poland for over a dozen years. The heavy sounds extracted from the black plastic disc inspired him to do more, to go a step further and create his own music. He sought inspiration in crowded cities and the correlation of nature with industrialized society. 

In music, he looks for something that is not obvious and still to discover. He is focused on his original productions, where you will find a rich mixture of dense industrial atmosphere, off beats sounds and monumental film music elements driven by energetic kick.

Michal is also one of the co-founders and curators of @lostinether, a podcast and music platform series focused on the personal visions and expressions of alternative electronic music represented by artists invited to show their own ways to explore sounds which are embraced into one wave of sound.

Michal releases his music on VSK Series, Secret Keywords, Animal Farm Records, Newrhythmic Records, and Voxnox to name a few and his performance can be found in most clubs in Europe, when not closed down by COVID-19.
