In time for 9/9, here's… 999999999.

The Italian duo's reputation as a rave demolition crew has made them one of the most in-demand acts on the global circuit. Too nosebleed for 'business', and too close to Defqon.1-level hardstyle to be hard techno in the classic sense, 999999999's headline sets practically require a new category to convey the sense of scale: let's call it megatechno. 

Following a string of unsubtle yet undeniably impactful hit records in the late 2010s, Carlo B. & Giovanni C. became fast favourites of a generation who prefer their 303 cranked to 11. Their rampant velocity arrived at the right moment, proving parallel compatibility with acid lifers and younger audiences making the leap from EDM to hard dance. Flash forward to 2024 and they're flanked by flamethrowers while mashing down colossal crowds at festivals like Awakenings. 

Here, they purposefully strip it back and emphasise the core elements of the 9x9 formula—high drama, jackhammering kicks and the kind of tweaked-out acid air sirens that would make the likes of Hardfloor and Miss Djax scrunch their noses in approval. In other words, non-stop wrecking balls trained squarely at the foundations of a hangar near you.

Dragomir Syarov’s love for electronic music sparked in the late 90s, but it was techno that truly set him on a transformative journey, shifting him from a passionate collector to an underground DJ. After refining his skills at local Bulgarian events, his move to London widened his musical palette, diving into ambient, deep house, jazz, vintage easy listening and classic music. These explorations sharpened his ear, resulting in a unique style that blends state-of-the-art techno through his artistic vision. The pandemic spurred his leap into production and he continuously explores sonic frequencies more deeply. By late 2021, he returned to Bulgaria, ready to dive back into the Bulgarian underground scene and leave his mark.

This 145bpm mix is part of my "Afterhours" series. Afterhours mixes tend to be late night sessions where I've randomly jumped on the decks, hit record and played around with often newly acquired music to see what happens. They're more raw and unpolished compared to other sets and are also mixed purely in headphones.

This set is very groovy with high energy and features many tracks that fit the "Gravitational Groove/Gravitational Techno" sound I'm curating and LOVING! Hope you enjoy.

The mix is a representation of a Saturday night out, heading into the city to meet friends, having some drinks in a bar. The build of excitement as everyone starts to meet up. Back into the inner city streets and the 5min walk that takes 50mins from the bar to the club. The arrival, hitting the dancefloor, losing all inhibitions, lost in the frequencies and shaking your ass to the tribal rhythms enveloping us from the soundsystem, 8hrs feel like 1hr in the blink of an eye. Its now 8am, lights have gone up, some friends have been lost, some new friends have been made in the aftermath. One party ends and another begins...
