Ilario Alicante’s Virgo label returns with more vital club gold, this time from Drumsauw and Unknown Code with their ‘Berliner’ EP.
Unknown Code is an Italian artist making waves in the European underground with heavy yet fluid techno releases on legendary outlet Planet Rhythm while featuring as a resident of the Roman crew Traumers. Here joins up with UK DJ/producer Drumsauw, who has quickly become a core part of techno's cutting edge, support from Adam Beyer, Radio Slave, Chris Liebing and Charlotte De Witte on Beatport topping cuts via labels like AnalyticTrail and On Edge Society.

Up first is ‘Berliner’, a sleek and linear techno effort with synth stabs flashing across the face of the heavy drums and rumbling bass. It's a rave-ready sound that takes you to the heart of a smoky dance floor. The excellent ‘Ostbahnhof’ keeps the energy levels high with more thundering kick drums beneath pulsing synths and paranoid vocal fragments, delivering perfectly muscular techno with a warm machine soul. Last of all is ‘Schwärmen’, which is more strobe-lit and frenzied as wall-rattling drums bring the tension, coarse claps add texture, and insistent stabs ensure maximum impact on the dancefloor.

Drumsauw & Unknown Code ‘Berliner’ EP drops via Virgo on 4th October 2023.

Frankfurt native Michael Klein, aka Michael Koczynski, has been an integral part of the European techno scene for many years. His savvy sounds have been released via the likes of Cocoon, Second State and his BLK DRP since the turn of the century while always bringing heavy beats and intricate sound designs.

He opens up here with the mighty sounds of 'Introsuspect,' which pairs hefty low ends with spooky and sparse atmospheres up top. The bulky, gritty drums march onwards while wispy details and paranoid motifs ring out and keep dancers on their toes. Then comes the equally chunky kicks of 'Sirena' with coarse claps peeling off the groove, synths twisted into the beats and filthy basslines powering the whole thing forward with inescapable energy.

Another offering of high-class club music from the always consistent Rekids offshoot, Michael Klein’s ‘Introsuspect’ is released on 6th October on Rekids Special Projects.

'Based in Nürnberg - Germany, Mouche is a club-focused label specializing in the more low- slung strains of Techno. Previous releases from TM Shuffle, Ivano Tetelepta, and Chris Carrier share reduced and effective qualities, and the next addition to the label - the 2nd release from Ittara - follows suit. 'Peace Of Mind' is a single backed up with a sophisticated remix from Markus Suckut

The title track is a raw, upfront groove that captures the energy of a late warm-up set. Slick polyrhythms are neatly braided together and propelled by bumping drums while percussion is deftly controlled in a manner that punctuates progress and repeatedly sends out calls to the dance floor.

Düsseldorf based Markus Suckut then follows up releases on Steve O'sullivan's Mosiac, Cocoon Recordings and his own label SCKT with a dose of hypnotic, mechanical Dub Techno powered by icy reverbs, deep-set drums, and rippling synths which represent differing shades of the colour presented in the original.'

D-Unity returns to Tronic with a phat tribal stormer!

Following three stellar outings on Chris Liebing’s CLR imprint, DEAS returns to the label with the ‘Fear’ EP. For this release, the Greece-born Polish artist excellently demonstrates the use of tension in his music, with the title track building in energy through rolling bass and rhythm, counterbalanced by the sudden, imposing strikes of a string instrument. The industrial ‘Are You Sure’ continues, featuring cavernous dub hits and hammering kickdrums, before the slicing synths in ‘Dice’ echo relentlessly throughout its clever arrangement. Last in line, ‘Koma’ then closes out this quality techno offering from the Planet Rhythm, Arts, and ara artist, growing in intensity via distorted grooves marked by tripped-out claps and DEAS’ signature use of suspenseful melodies.
