After setting the tone with two originals and one remix with us back in 2020, Berlin-based producer Fabian Krooss returns this year with his debut solo sortie, 'Planet D'. A nod to the ecological nonsense that envisages salute in departing our beloved 'Planet A' for other celestial bodies to tear down - such as a fictional 'Planet D', the EP runs the gamut from minimalistic club grooves to blissed-out tropical chuggers, via further atmospheric excursions.

Whilst 'Time To Act' serves up a dynamic symphony of FX-laden elements joining forces to fight off anxiety for our future, Theo Meier’s revamp takes the track into further functional club territory with clinical poise. The even lusher 'Night Owl' reels out as an ode to nature and its healing powers, bringing forth a vibrant mix of bassy power and refined, balearic-informed ambient scapes, whereas Midas 104’s version injects just the right amount of bounce and jazz into its hypnotic folds. 

'Watatata', a collaboration with Jacob Stille, smoothly takes you on the other side with an innovative and playful touch and 'Twisted Mind' simply rounds it all up with an intergalactic bang.

Channeling earthly energies with a strongly poetic power of evocation, 'Planet D' is an invitation to refocus, carried by the hope of fuelling a new, sustainable vision for tomorrow.

Alberto Iovine and Alessandro Fumagalli aka Modular Project announce the launch of their new label, in partnership with Rebirth Records.
 
Born and raised between Como and Milan, Alberto and Alessandro quickly shared their love for electronic music and the great passion for vintage synths and drum machines. They started to produce together in 2012 and released on labels like OFF, Moodmusic and Perpetualis Music before joining Rebirth in 2017 with their remix of the Blond:ish classic ‘Wizard Of Love’.

The 002 is Modular Project’s first production on the label. ‘Andromeda’ is an hypnotic journey through shades of indie electronica, new wave and their signature sounds. The package comes with two strong remixes from Nhar and Tom Peters.

Laconia features collaborations with fellow producers Cioz and Cook Strummer, as well as a special apparition by Sam’s paternal figure playing the Oud on Mirage. The tracks explore a diverse array of dispositions, from groovy up-warmers such as Mangata or Louna to more lively dancefloor aggregators such as Kamala Bani, on to the deeply polarizing, whirlwind synth dinger Guz or the more experimental self-evident Not Much To Say.

A novel detail makes an appearance on Je te vois, an acoustic electronic dance number with poetic lyrics tenderly sung in French for the first time. The artist’s romantic side also shows through the mystical elements interspersed throughout, from the spellbinding Encanto to the dreamy soundscapes of Atreyu, named after the famous German fantasy book character.

Thanks to a modest key riff and more cosmic effects, Aubade lends its meaning of “greeting in the sun” to the atmosphere, rounding off the release on an incandescent note.

With a hefty back catalog of releases and an ever-evolving style, Berlin mainstay Niko Schwind dives into his introspective side on the Amari EP, which boasts four original tracks including a collab with DJ, producer and vocalist Felix Raphael.

Opener Circles is a tangle of dreamy pads and wistful vocals, with gleaming synths and undulating drums complementing Felix Raphael’s pensive lyrical incantations.

A walk on the tribal side, Kala combines introspective melodies with relentless percussion. Indigenous chants accent the mystic rave atmosphere, building up to an immersive, hypnotizing climax. Equally mesmerizing, but channeling a more constant energy is Amari, taking us on a dynamic journey with occasional bursts of sonic color. As a key member of the Family Piknik team, Pontias showcases here a wonderful and emotive musical range. "We felt like this track needed the biggest exposure because it gives us goosebumps each time we press play”, comments Tom Pooks, Family Piknik Music’s head honcho. ‘Go Bro’ is a strong melodic track Pontias composed with his friend Convergence System in his hometown of Saint-Etienne (France).

For this new release pack, Family Piknik has invited two monsters on board: Hernan Cattaneo & Theus Mago. Hernan Cattaneo has put Argentina on the center of the Progressive House musical map since more than 2 decades. True hero of the melodic deep signature, he has teamed up with Marcelo Vasemi to deliver the perfect remix. Deep, sexy, groovy as hell, this rework smoothly play with the original melodies and will have many bodies shaking all over the globe. On the flip side, the always creative Theus Mago drops two versions of his remix. Somewhere between Nu-Disco and Minimal House, the Mexican (also known as Bufi, signed to labels like Turbo, Kill The DJ and Correspondant) doesn’t stick to the original theme at all and takes us on a one way trip. Just skip to 3’15 on the ‘Meet her at a Zoom Parade’ and you’ll probably have a huge smile on your face when you’ll see how tricky Theus can be ! Full of surprises, unexpected and futuristic, these remixes might turn you upside down.

Pontias also cooked up a brand new Alternative Mix, in a more dance-ready shape, using floating sounds and dropping a nice groove over the original theme’s moody synths. TheCherry on the cake, this release comes with an official video. Shot by Patrick Ortega, next to Montpellier (Family Piknik festival’s own land), it pictures a wild and romantic road trip through the breathtaking landscapes of south of France. Manon and his partner bring the perfect light to underline the cinematic dimension of the track.
