Shadow Wulf emerged at the beginning of 2020 as the ferociously dark cub of existing House and Techno label Wulfpack. The new sister label was founded by producers Erin Parisi (Crescendoll), Aaron Jacobs, and Drew Blyther when they recognized an opportunity to fill a void in LA’s underground scene. Thanks to Shadow Wulf, the Dark Techno/Minimal sounds more popular overseas have found their place in the den of Southern California. The founders set out to collaborate with producers from around the world and provide a twisted auditory landscape for a global audience. 
 
After a year of 13 strong and successful releases from talented artists all over the world, the majority of which charted and placed on Beatport’s top 100 or were featured selections on main subgenre pages, Shadow Wulf has shown strength amidst the growing number of competitors. The young LA-based label returns with their 14th release and their second Various Artists compilation. Shadow Wulf Vol. 2. features 11 dance-floor heaters that wholly encompass and present a clear snapshot of the current dark minimal, techno, and psytech movement. Musical curators include new Shadow Wulf artists Bendtsen (Denmark), Britton (USA), Matias Sapag (Germany), Melanie Massa (Argentina), and Matze (Germany), alongside returning artists Tomchilla (Australia), APHE (Germany), RNDM. (France), Rupt (France), Myad (USA), mexCalito (Germany), and Synchronometry (USA). 
 
Shadow Wulf Vol. 2 remains consistent in the label’s sound, while also showing the diversity in styles among the label’s artists and the founding tastemakers. Commanding the mind-bending psytech grooves are producers Bendtsen, Tomchilla, Britton, RNDM., Rupt, Synchronometry, and Myad, with tracks bouncing, driving, and rolling along hypnotic basslines and trippy atmospheric effects. And on the other side of the coin are the guttural minimal / techno creations from APHE, Melanie Massa, Matias Sapag, and mexCalito, with menacing bass synths, heavy and sticky rhythms, and eerie leads expertly designed to add space, grit, darkness, and weight to the savage grooves. These 11 tracks are not for the faint at heart, but are also irresistible in their charm, summoning darkside devotees everywhere to the center of those dusty dancefloors and grungey warehouses with their siren call. This selection of Shadow Wulves from across the globe show their teeth in this ferocious VA compilation, proving that even minimal sounds can pack a serious punch.

Charging into November, Shadow Wulf proudly presents their sixteenth release this month, “Director’s Cut”. The latest EP from young German producer mexCalito, “Director’s Cut” features both the first and last tracks Mex produced in his recent studio. 

Lately, Mex has been focused in the studio creating constantly and rapidly maturing his mixing and mastering skills under the mentorship of fellow collaborator Dubs. Mex’s tracks are being released by some of the world's best underground techno labels. His sound is characterized by hypnotic rolling basses and experimental rhythms and effects, a cross between Techno, Zenon, Minimal and a kind of haunting psychedelic groove. With this latest release, Mex’s matured sound is on display, showing off the connection between the technoid and minimalistic styles, and mesmerizing with a bevy of psychotropic effects for that characteristic psytech sound. 

The title track, “Directors Cut", was started towards the beginning of the recent pandemic, and with the status of the world, Mex felt inspired to use vocals that fit thematically to the times. The vocals echo, “It was the time, where it wasn’t clear, if the world’s gonna turn to normal again...the main advice...is to tell citizens...to stay inside your homes behind locked doors." 

The EP features remixes from returning Shadow Wulf artist Anina Owly (Germany), and debuts two new artists to the label, Lost ON Earth (Portugal) and Chris Nord (Austria).

Psytech producer Kleiman presents “Seeding”, his second release with Shadow Wulf Records, featuring one original track and remixes from varying sides of the techno scope thanks to Le Son Du Placard, David Phoenix, and Myad. 

In this track, Kleiman continues exploring the spectrum between psychedelic and techno sounds, maintaining his unique style and keeping his latin roots alive. The invited remixers go from a deep and hypnotic psyprog from California desert explorer Myad, a minimal techno jewel presented by Austrian tastemaker David Phoenix, and, of course, the dark techno variation presented by French maestro Le Son Du Placard, from which Kleiman did an exciting remix just last year on the very same label.

Humans seed during dry season, working on the hardest times hoping for the rain to activate the potential of the plants. Kleiman attributes a similar process in how musicians and producers around the world continued with the only thing familiar to them, their craft, during the quarantine, hoping for times to change so they can play and share their music with people again. “Seeding” got its name from exactly this kind of work during lockdown, i.e. – planting (musical) seeds and allowing them to flourish in the form of a powerful release.
