This week it's the turn of Los Angeles audio-visual project @motionen to step up to the Global Vibe Radio decks for what is now our 59th episode.

Composed of Matt Salamone (@mattsal) and Carlos Matamoros (a.k.a @altrd-being), the duo produce techno, acid, ambient and dub, and DJ both individually and as a duo. They are also the founders of @asceticlimited, a young imprint that focuses on the driving sounds of acid, ambient, and deep techno.

Los Angeles based LINUS steps up to the decks for this week's Guest Mix, providing over an hour of techno cuts for our listening pleasure.

A veteran of the scene for almost three decades, LINUS founded Oven Ready Records, the Slynus record series and was involved in the founding and running of Vinyl Addiction record shop, the Mind Your Head recording studio and, lastly, the successful PANIC event series in Los Angeles that focuses on quality home-grown techno on top of inviting guest acts to perform.

Trovarsi is a LA-based live performer, DJ, and producer that brings new, darker sounds to the world of electronic music. With a hybrid blend of analogue synths, drum machines, modular, and Ableton, she builds a pulsing atmosphere to any set she plays, with a particular penchant for captivating LIVE performances.

Trovarsi is also a member of FORWARD (an electronic musician duo) as well as the founder of Transduction Signal on Fnoob Techno Radio, which showcases global DJs/artists as well as up-and-coming electronic artists.

Recorded live on August 3rd, 2019 at the MORD Label Night in Los Angeles hosted by Synthetik Minds and Dirty Epic, Ønyx's set was in direct support for Ansome (Live) and label boss Bas Mooy. 

Los Angeles-based Ønyx dedicates the mix to her late younger brother Thomas, who supported her artistry and love for music, film and life through the years. May He Rest In Peace.

On February 29th, 2020, just over a week before Coronavirus lockdowns, we celebrated 3 Years of @synthetikminds events by joining them for a special SOLD OUT WORK night featuring Paula Temple, DarcSounds and JIA.

This is DarcSounds' 3 hour opening set in direct support for Paula Temple. We hope this takes you back to a techno dance floor, whether you were there with us in that warehouse or not.

DarcSounds hails from the bright and floral islands of Hawaii, however her sound doesn’t mimic such a phosphorescent context. Her DJ sets take listeners on an aphotic textural sound-scape journey building in momentum, and her productions feed an elusive mood creating a seamless blend into four to the floor mixes.

Inspired by European techno, she delivers heavy-hitting beats creating a vortex of energy while maintaining moments of sensual melodies

6AM Guest Mix: DarcSounds (Live at Synthetik Minds 3 Year Anniversary w/ Paula Temple)

It's our pleasure and honor to present this week's Global Vibe Radio mix, featuring Los Angeles techno flag-bearer Truncate.

Established in early 2011, Truncate is the raw, deep, jackin techno and house project of David Flores, who is also widely known for his productions as Audio Injection

After being introduced to electronic music back as a teenager in the early '90s in Los Angeles, Flores was hooked. He started DJing across Southern California on the DIY warehouse, backyard, desert, and rave circuit. 

After a few years solely DJing, he began releasing original music under the monikers David F and Audio Injection, which landed him on labels such as Monoid, Stimulus, 4 Track & LA label Droid Recordings. His association with Droid Behavior began in 2003 as a resident at the now defunct yet infamous and internationally acclaimed Interface event series alongside Drumcell and Raiz. He currently runs a new event series together with Drumcell and Oktaform named “Observe”.

His Truncate releases early on gained critical acclaim from world class underground talent such as Modeselektor, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Chris Liebing, Speedy J, DVS1, Luke Slater, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Eats Everything, Joris Voorn, and many more. Since then, he has provided remixes for artists across the musical spectrum including Kink, Slam, Loco Dice, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Ellen Alien, Miss Kittin, Carl Cox & Nicole Moudaber. He has also released original works on 50 Weapons, Ultramajic, Blueprint, Ei8ht, Figure and of course his own imprint Truncate. He has also collaborated with Jimmy Edgar, Chambray and most recently started a new project with Ben Sims as ‘Assailants’ which they’ve released on their own imprint ‘Obscurity Is Infinite’.

A rigorous international tour schedule has since followed, including stops and regular appearances at the most prestigious venues and events, including Berghain in Berlin, Fabric in London, Concrete in Paris, The Movement Festival in Detroit, Womb in Tokyo, Dimensions Festival in Croatia, Awakenings in Amsterdam, Output in New York, and many more.

Jelani Yorker is a Los Angeles-based producer and DJ, who was raised in Washington DC and has been performing since 2008. 

While living in DC he held a residency at U Street Music Hall, a club that was named one of Rolling Stone’s top ten nightclubs in 2010. The following year, at the age of 19, he played alongside prolific artists, such as Crookers, Nick Catchdubs and Treasure Fingers. His move to Los Angeles in 2012 led to a focus on production; he is also working on a hybrid live set that combines DJing and modular synths. 

Jelani is part of a new wave of Los Angeles producers and DJs who have scanned the landscapes of underground dance music, hip-hop and EDM and will take dance music on new routes into fresh and uncharted territory. 

He certainly is a name to watch, which makes it our pleasure to invite him to the Guest Mix series.

They say all great things are worth waiting for, and we couldn't agree more on a day when we are able to welcome Los Angeles techno flag-bearer Drumcell for his first Global Vibe Radio mix.

Drumcell was born as Moe Espinosa in LA’ San Gabriel Valley. Far away from the glamour and glitter of Hollywood, he cut his teeth growing up in a vibrant, culturally diverse neighborhood that still breeds inspiration for his work.

To say that Drumcell's work as a curator is synonymous with the Los Angeles techno scene as we know it today would be an understatement. First as co-founder of Droid Behavior, the label that ultimately gave birth to the infamous now-defunct Interface event series, and more recently as co-founder of Observe, Drumcell has been active in curating avant-garde techno events for decades. It is these events, as well as Drumcell's own productions, that have not only put LA on the international techno map, but have inspired countless other artists and event curators (6AM included) to contribute to their local techno scenes. 

A classically trained musician in his youth, Moe came to circulate around the Noise, Punk and Industrial scene, playing guitar and singing in various bands until he discovered the early ‘90s LA rave scene. 

That was when he got in touch with some of the heroic synthesizers of techno’s early years. His enthusiasm for those synthetic sounds lead to a career as a Product Specialist at Native Instruments and to independent musician and engineer work across Los Angeles. Some of his studio contributions include work for Alessandro Cortini of Nine Inch Nails, Maynard James Keenan of Tool, Douglas McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb, Gary Numan, George Clinton, Kool Keith, Qbert, and Cut Chemist.

By then, Moe was chuffed to pursue his own productions. When he handed out his first self-produced, self-pressed vinyls at the DEMF in 2001, he heard them being played from the festival stages the very next day. Since then, he has released original productions or remixes on DROID, CLR, Electric Deluxe, Dystopian, Torque, Silent Steps, Blank Code, Ibadan, Detroit Underground, and more. This style has caught the attention of many of the world’s top techno jocks, with strong track support from the likes of Luke Slater, Speedy J, and Chris Leibing. This style has also reached numerous prestigious international clubs and festivals. From Berlin’s techno mecca Berghain to the main stage of Movement in Detroit to North American nightclubs like Output and Stereo to festivals across Europe, Latin America, Japan and Australia – Drumcell’s sound is being heard around the world.

In 2016, Drumcell debuted his ambient project HYPOXIA on his experimental label BL_K NOISE, producing infinite movement with his Buchla and Eurorack systems. Hypoxia all hardware performance have been heard at highly curated atmospheres from Atonal and Berghain in Berlin to Brooklyn’s Greyscale Series at Output to pop-up concerts on the LA River.

Drumcell explores and discovers the analogue world as much as the digital world of music production, to finally combine them into his very own raw, suspenseful and hypnotic style. Influenced by a myriad of music as well as science fiction and machines, he has developed an addiction to analog synthesis which has led to ceaseless experiments in his studio in search of new, mind-expanding sounds. As one of the most esoteric techno artists in North America, his sound disregards genre limitations and is everything but conventional techno.
