WORK Residency Program: Resident Annika Wolfe Mix

Berlin based LXM steps in for our 155th Local Selection Mix with a carefully crafted techno mix. LXM has provided a masterclass three deck mix, full of incessant loops and grooves to soundtrack your Paddy’s Eve.

Louis McElveen has been hard at work in the studio, carving out a refined techno sound since his move to Berlin. LXM has been putting a large emphasis on hardware and minimal grooves into his productions, and this is shining right through to his DJ mixes.

Formally part of Armed Response Unit with longtime friend Will Boyle, Louis has shifted his style from industrial techno to a more stripped back and classic style of techno. Taking inspiration from artists such as Kaiser, Mattrixman, Dasha Rush and more, Louis has been working tirelessly to perfect this sound but with his own unique flavour.

While LXM has been quiet on the release front, he has a four track EP dropping on a Berlin label shortly, which is absolutely fantastic and shall be a perfect introduction to his newfound sound. The young producer will also be forming a new label, that will incorporate Irish producers and producers from afar to his deep vision. LXM also recently guested for fellow Dublin producer Aero’s Alternating Vitality show on 1020 Radio and the mix is an absolute cracker.

LXM’s Four Four mix is a prime example of Louis’s dedication to his craft over the last year. Never ending grooves and loops for an hour. Louis keeps the pace up and goes between tough and deep grooves, keeping an ever constant flow that doesn’t lean too heavy to either side. This is sublime mixing and selecting from a young techno craftsman at work.

Local selection Mix 156: LXM

Hard bass strike unit @Subject-Xero from Brighton are on a mission to shake club music out of a state of complacency. One of them - Mergim - being our native gives this connection even greater boost. Their multifaceted, distortion caked interpretation of techno leans towards drum & bass, garage and grime as much as Detroit machine funk. The Brighton-based tech punk aggravators take their cues from the vivid dystopian fantasies of anime and sci-fi in pursuit of a sound they refer to as FutureTech – a mixed-up reflection of the reality-bending present day and the precarity of tomorrow. In the studio, an outboard, hardware-oriented approach is intrinsic to their potent, nerve-shredding sound.

Having recently released on Nastia’s ‘Nechto’ imprint, ‘Don’t Just’ and ‘Kohë’ they are setting a high standard for heavyweight club weapon manufacture.

Dirty Epic welcomes aboard @deepneue for its thirty second episode of Amplify Series.

The Portuguese producer promises a sweaty groove. Strongly present in the European techno scene, the appearances of this DJ  and producer extend from his residency in Berlin through the infamous @pornceptual collective to places like Kyiv, Sofia, London, Paris or Amsterdam. Having released 2 EPs, this producer unveils mysterious yet surprising soundscapes. 
The cadence is set and the rhythms are intense or sometimes broken, soothed by either hypnotic or acid basslines and ethereal passages. Because Deepneue is “the new deep” his sets will warp you in a cathartic dance journey,

"ASCENSION" is the debut album release from artist ston, an independently released project. 

For Ascension, I set out to explore hard house, bassline, and electronic elements throughout.

This body of work means a lot to me; it took up six months of my life and taught me so much about music production. It also taught me the importance of committing to what you set out to achieve and the struggles that can come with that. Most importantly, it showed me that imperfection is okay when the alternative is procrastination.

I created this album using the DAW FL Studio, and as of its release, I’ve begun transitioning to Ableton, a commitment I set for myself when I first began this project.
Through this experience, I’ve learned that moving forward, I want to dive into more intricate ideas and trust my creative process without falling into the trap of comparing my work to others. I’m eager to experiment with more abstract percussions, deeper emotional progressions, and unconventional grooves. It’s going to be a journey, but I’m excited for it to begin.
