Ciao tutti, 
I put together this playlist for SoundCloud for Women's History Month and International Women's Day to spotlight FLINTA artists who inspire me ~ producers and DJs I admire, listen to regularly, and whose music is pure quality. Some are under the radar, others are breaking through, some you probably already know, but all deserve to be heard ~ not just this month, but all year round.

The first half focuses on producers, crafted to flow like a mix. Then, I shift to Djs and mixes I’ve been listening to regularly. The selections move from softer and reflective to groovier, hypnotic, and harder-hitting sounds ~ a space for discovery, empowerment and fresh perspectives.

FLINTA representation has grown over the years in our scene, and it’s beautiful to witness. But balance is still missing in many areas. True change takes patience, consistency, and real effort. It’s about staying curious, listening, digging deeper, and looking beyond what’s trending or right in front of us… It’s not about filling quotas ~ it’s about discovering with intention.

To the music lovers, DJs, promoters, club owners..etc.. do the research, listen beyond what’s easy to find, and support emerging talents with the same energy given to big names.

In a world where we expect everything here, now, and quickly, let’s not forget that quality is crafted over time and voices grow louder with patience and consistency.

We are delighted to present a mix from the groove dealer himself, Portugal-based DJ and producer VIL for number 86. Starting off under the Moniker "Sinner", VIL made his debut in the electronic music scene in 2008, playing Drum N' Bass, UK Garage and Dubstep. Then in 2013 he kickstarted his current VIL project, focused on techno, breaks, electro and house, which was followed by a string of releases on labels like Lewis Fautzi's "Faut Section" as well as Damon Wild's Synewave New York. VIL's set-building ability as well as his refined taste and unmistakable sound have made him a regular at clubs and festivals all around his home country. Then in 2018, VIL teamed up with fellow artists Temudo and menosdois to create HAYES, a label focused on putting out quality releases showcasing the distinct sound of their artists. The platform has been wildly successful with multiple releases to date, garnering support from some of the biggest names in the scene. Enjoy!

Neither yes nor no, Janein doenst like being pigeonholed. Whether in style or sound, his alias is a testament to the belief that opposites attract and beauty often lies in stark contrasts. Combining trance-flavored techno cuts with pulpy 80's science fiction, hypnotic rhythms with meaty EBM, Janein makes sure to always take the listener on a unique journey, where energy is free-flowing and dancing is imperative. The young german artist's career can be compared to a rising comet, whose trajectory has led him to some of the hottest locations this universe has to offer. Be it Säule at Berghain, Distillery Leipzig or the coveted Bassiani, this guy has pretty much seen it all. His Seelen imprint delivers a platform for his musical output, regularly pressing sought-after 12" vinyls among other goodies.

BCCO Mix Series 118: JANEIN

We are more than delighted to welcome Arkan onto our podcast for episode 150. The certified groove-dealer has been dishing out highly potent doses of his signature sound of straight-to-the-point minimalistic and precise techno for quite a while now. Since his early beginnings in fact, as a musician at a young age, Arkan was already fascinated by harmonies and the intense emotions they could evoke from the audience. Over time he has only intensified this approach, leading him to what he would today describe as "harmonical grooves research".  But it is not only in terms of music that he is constantly pushing forward the new groove movement (groovement?). His labels Autonome Records and more recently Drawner Records are both synonymous with quality and have grown into well respected labels of the emerging underground.

Fashion photographer by day, DJ by night, vinyl lover and on top of that part of DUEL collective. Pawel has a busy schedule pushing his scene on multiple fronts.  Despite his fairly recent debut, Pawel already regularly enjoys bookings by the most recognizable clubs in Poland. Supporting artists such as Somewhen, Keith Carnal, Etapp Kyle, The Lady Machine and more with his raw, deep, hypnotic and groovy sound, Pawel has made it clear that he is commited to keep on pushing himself and the scene he loves. Always wanting to emancipate peoples, he spread our love of the present moment by music, the most powerful form of transmission. Musician since his youngest age, it is with this in mind that he defends a music full of harmony, mentaly minimalist and deep, to make you feel intense emotions whatever who you are… His experience led him to release several times on his own labels, but also on the label from Setaoc Mass, SK_eleven.

In 2007 Marie-Julie spent 52 weeks in Berlin. She returned home with a bag full of vinyl records. Her style is heavily inspired by the numerous visits to Berghain and Hardwax that year. After playing at the legendary Fuse club in Brussels and De School in Amsterdam, she gained a spot in the Belgian underground techno scene. In 2012 she formed together with other techno enthusiasts the techno collective TRP (www.instagram.com/trpgent), organizing several in- and outdoor parties in Ghent. She plays energetic and groovy techno, using only two turntables and a mixer.

Setaoc Mass, a Manchester-born DJ, producer, and curator of his imprint SK_Eleven, has spent the past decade actively involved in preserving the techno legacy while nurturing its evolution as well. Amid the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Setaoc Mass relocated to Kyiv.

Before the Curfew is a series of music podcasts that emerged in 2022 after the reopening of the club following the liberation of Kyiv. Freshly minted from the ever consistent force de majeure that is On Board Music, we have Jin Synth’s Enigmatica EP. The London based producer explores the inbetweens of ambient and deep techno, with each track in the release offering a nuanced and mature interpretation of the various shades and moods that inhabit the space.

Regretful Crossroads wraps an auditory hug around the listener, bringing warm melodies and delightfully natural percussion to bear as the song unfolds. The track’s time signature gives lightness and a groove that percolates throughout. Best for those come down moments, or a relaxed afternoon listening session.

Jin Synth’s Enigmatica EP will be released on November 8th, including a notable collaboration with Giuseppe Tillieci aka Neel.

Shimmy Robin ist DJ aus Hamburg und Teil des OSZIL-Kollektivs. Gemeinsam mit dj blip veranstaltet sie die Reihe blipmotif im legendären Golden Pudel Club. Ihre Sets führen durch ihre musikalischen Inspirationen und verbinden fesselnde Vocals mit orchestralen Akzenten und einer fein abgestimmten Dramaturgie.

INTERVIEW
Du bist musikalisch sehr divers aufgestellt: Welche Vorteile und Herausforderungen siehst du darin, viele verschiedene Genres aufzulegen, und wie beeinflusst das deine künstlerische Entwicklung?

Ich schätze die Abwechslung in Musik und Bewegung, die durch meinen klassischen Klavierhintergrund und den Einfluss von R’n’B und Soul geprägt ist. Es fasziniert mich, verschiedene Stile zu kombinieren und dabei etwas Einzigartiges zu schaffen.

Gemeinsam mit dj blip hostest du die Veranstaltungsreihe „blipmotif“ im Golden Pudel. Kannst du uns mehr über die Vision dahinter erzählen und wie sie entstanden ist?

Seit Herbst 2022 bin ich Teil dieser Reihe und dankbar, mit dj blip – Mentor & Best Friend –  die unterschiedlichsten Künstlerinnen einzuladen. Während wir bei unserem jährlichen Sommerfest überwiegend unsere fav. local Heroes dabei haben, konzentrieren wir uns die anderen Monate auf Artists, die uns kürzlich oder schon lange inspirieren und die wir der Szene hier vorstellen wollen.

Was war deine Lieblings-Dancefloor-Erfahrung und warum?

Tricky, weil es nicht die „Einzige“ Lieblings-Erfahrung gibt. Aber Momente völliger Hingabe zur Musik bei geschlossenen Augen mit herausragendem Sound und Lichttechnik, einer Handvoll guter Friends wie beim Climate of Fear, dem Nachtiville oder im Berghain bei Rene Wise’s Closing Set.

Shimmy Robin is a DJ from Hamburg and part of the OSZIL collective. Together with dj blip, she organizes the blipmotifseries at the iconic Golden Pudel Club. Her sets take listeners on a journey through her musical inspirations, blending captivating vocals with orchestral nuances and a carefully crafted dramatic tension.

INTERVIEW
You have a very diverse musical approach: What are the advantages and challenges of playing many different genres, and how does this influence your artistic development?

I value the variety in music and movement, shaped by my classical piano background and the influence of R’n’B and soul. I’m fascinated by combining different styles and creating something unique in the process.

Together with dj blip, you host the event series “blipmotif” at the Golden Pudel. Can you tell us more about the vision behind it and how it came to be?

Since autumn 2022, I’ve been part of this series and am grateful to collaborate with dj blip – mentor and best friend – in inviting a wide range of artists. While our annual summer festival focuses mainly on our favorite local heroes, the other months highlight artists who have recently or long inspired us and whom we want to introduce to the scene here.

What was your favorite dancefloor experience and why?

That’s tricky, as there isn’t a single “favorite” experience. But moments of complete surrender to the music, with closed eyes, outstanding sound and lighting, and a handful of good friends – like at Climate of Fear, Nachtiville, or Rene Wise’s closing set at Berghain – are unforgettable.
