A confessional piece about the long battle w/ the chronic depression.
Words:

Under the covers,
he said he remembers back when I told him
that I wasn't a morning person.

I say Listen,
the mornings were always so rigid,
some unbearable.
Forced mourning, inhumane to a poet.
Reflection is our blood yo, but we work at our own pace.
Mornings, I tell him, nothing but a rabbit hole to a poet.
A rabbit hole in which, it is ALWAYS too damn early
to fall down. And you know I'm always running late.
I say yeah, well that was my perspective back then.
Let me elaborate.
The rabbit hole leads to a dungeon
where I lived too long as a six year-old girl.
My impressionable mental state
carefully crafted into a thousand-piece puzzle.
Suddenly, I was thirty,
still in the dungeon
of broken mirrors and cold queens who spot
individuality
and take it as a personal attack.
And then well, it's "off with her head! "
This is all justified perfectly, of course,
in their minds as 'it's her or me'.
Yes, the trusty rigid mornings.
Warmth simply couldn’t be trusted
so I slept through it.
My spine quickly turned into an icicle spear.
Mourning warrior of sadness. Increasingly
chaotic mind. Sadness
that was always welcomed.
Back then, I'd never turn mourning away.
But the sun, ha! No darling, I couldn't bear it.
Mourning, at least came
with a free frownie-face pancake.
I love that he is pure
in the sense that he doesn't comprehend
the war between mornings and poets.
Well, they are deep-rooted enemies.
It's ok, cause I'll never comprehend half
of what he knows. < I adore him...>

Listen, I tell him,
it's not my fault I hated mornings!
I never wanted to hate anything!
I was raised by a wolf bringing me
cupcakes
laced with insults and time-released poison.
I was raised to hate myself
so, morning hate just came by default.

I tell him,
but I no longer hate myself.
I've lived through enough mourning.
Everything gets old eventually...
I can be a morning person now,
for you.
Is it too late?

Should we get a kitty now
to train me
to be the pussy alarm,
morning person boot camp?

here we are again 
I just can't bear this drag
of time and fog and doubt
Oh, the bother in my bones 

Four steps forward 
and twelve steps back 
We're a deleted scene
in a sci-fi dark fairy tale
We only ever get so far
into space, into the woods, 
it doesn't matter, we just get lost

Here we are once again
I know he's loving me 
in the way he's wired
every time he's near, 
knowing he will never be near 
in the way 
that distance doesn't win 

It's not his fault 
It's not my fault 
but it aches and aches 
and wears us out 

Day-drinking in my closet, 
shame-sharing my chardonnay
until kindly, 
I'm granted a perspective change,
a glimpse from the director's chair
I think about the value of deleted scenes 
and how we search them out,
in a certain mood
How they offer us insight
into the growth process of a creation.
a masterpiece 
They are proof of the learning curve, 
a raw moment in time
Deleted scenes are vital fragments
but they can't go all the way
I begin to think, just maybe
it's ok that we are not the final cut

Tonight, I release him 
with Love 
Table for one, please
And I promise myself 
this is progress

I will stop measuring my worth
with distance 

We can cast more characters into the lead
and still cherish what was cut
We are the directors, not a scene

and your red flag-labyrinth of shit
My soul doesn't own any 
white flags. I don't wave and glitch
and flop like the other fish out of water
I could really rip out your bored fangs
with my bolt-cutting 
words. And You did it...
You drained me
with your double life-kink
Yes, I got what I asked for
I'm a poet
so I wasn't born a good girl;
Born to dig the coffin boys
and You didn't disappoint
so I could wake up the next day
more like You, but

not quite. I was now a daywalker
nightclubbing inside my daydreaming
about the curse and the blessing
and how we must experience 
both sides. I forgive You
for thinking 
You could have my heart
all for yourself, as I dared You
because you never chose truth.

I Dared You

She is the plague of my mind
I've been ill in all forms
Spinning most days
into her black hole of hypochondria

All her energy directed
to crushing my spirit
I would drown in the ocean every morning
just by stepping out of bed

The narc mother's only passion
is thinking she can control the waves
But I let out a sigh so hard
that I became the wind and the water

Creating waves was as easy as letting go
All bottom feeders now answer to me
Each school of fish formed into a heart
Sharks exist now only for my amusement
