In the past month I was lucky enough to attend Jan’s DJ workshop at de School. We worked towards recording a personal favourite one-hour club mix.

As I started mixing in the final days of the (remarkable) post-covid summer of 2022, the mix is a reflection of the first months and many hours of digging and bedroom practice that followed. Music has been with me all my life and has known many shapes, but this specific form of self-expression resonates with me deeply, and I have felt more peace and joy over the past months because of it which I am grateful for.

I selected some of my recent favourite tracks of the to me fascinating world of electronic music, starting in 1995, but mostly newer releases from the current age up to the first months of 2023. I aimed to express the emotions described above, characterized by the energy I feel with it through prominent percussion elements. It is dedicated to the feeling you get when life is serving you with beauty. To me for example on an occasional club night, to you, for when or whatever that may be.

It is also dedicated to my dearest and oldest friend Floor, who has very sadly past away on the final day of 2021. Despite facing the most challenging illness for years, she has showed an extraordinary strength, dedication, and a powerful entrepreneurial mindset building the ffortfoundation (amongst other things) in the final period of her life, which has inspired and helped me, others, and more to come immensely. She taught us to cherish life and to pursue what truly matters to our hearts, even when that may seem daunting or challenging at times.

Finally, the mix is an ode to the upcoming summer which I am sure many of you can already feel tingling in your little toes with the first sun rays coming out, and to more to come <3.

Thank you Jan for being the nicest teacher and providing us all with the opportunity to work with you on a tailored road towards an end goal, it means a lot. took a little breather after the end of the, I believe we can say, turbulent (🥵) year of 2023..... read on for a story.

in collaboration of my own beloved team of pos and the talented Amsterdam locals representing taped rhythm, we had been working for weeks to build a big nye event in Amsterdam Noord. 2 days in advance our location was cancelled. we swapped the entire event to a club, the other side, within a day. with regards to the program, that finn, tom, and me had built separately and with different visions for 2 warehouses, in the mids of the chaos we were faced with a challenge to combine our two programs into one. due to everyone’s resilience, flexibility, openness, and creativity, no artist had to be cancelled and the combined program could not have been more successful.

the combined event was extra meaningful in so many ways. It brought along new perspectives, so much power, and many lessons learned. a packed dancefloor at 9 am reflected all of that and we do it for you. to let go of what this year has brought. to inspire. to create. to help. thank u thank u thank u forever for all your hard work, my deepest respect to all of you, the boys of taped, pos, the amazing team of the other side, everyone that joined, and every single person close to us that stood by our side and helped out when we needed it most. it felt powerful. 

finn and me ended up playing the cutest and meaningful b2b representing both our teams, warming up the long night and morning ahead. originally I was scheduled to play for two hours in our own warehouse, and I had been preparing for weeks to create a specific experience for everyone that would have been present. I decided to record (a part of the) mix to listen back to. It reflects a transformative advancement into the realms of comfort. where chaos meets comfort, when you need it the most. read the titles. how do they make you feel? and then 2024…. i wish and deeply hope for you to receive all the support, strength, power, motivation, and inspiration you need for the year to come.

comfort threshold | 2023 into 2024 | Andy

We crossed paths with Andy earlier, when we invited her to open at our label night at Parallel earlier this year. We're really happy with having her for the 22nd contribution of the Intercept Mix Series.

In her own words:

When I spoke Raynor earlier this year, he was encouraging me: "Keep doing what you do, never be afraid of playing all those genres together." Those words have stayed with me, and felt extra comfortable embracing them for Intercept's mix series. For this mix I decided to pick a first and a final track. The first is a 2024 release from Bastian Benjamin called Stranger than Fiction, and the last a 1998 (my birth year) classic from AIR, All I Need (feat. Ben Hirsch). If you take these two tracks together there's a paradox in it about 1) the sometimes complex and mysterious state of one's mind, which can be fascinating but sometimes hard to understand, something that the producer described as 'surpassing even the strangest fiction', and 2 ) the tranquil and more simple state of it that the lyrics of all I need reflect, a state where your mind feels like it makes sense and is at peace. Beth Hirsch was inspired by a to her inspirational period in her life in Paris, where she found herself in the right places at the right times with like-minded people, a place where things flow and just make sense. In the mix I invite you to follow my lead into a manifold, teasing, perhaps demanding, but pleasing and freeing journey in between these extreme states, eventually bringing you peace of mind, a common theme for me. The mix opens in an ambient soundscape and transitions into a foundation of a wide range of house music. It weaves together experimental, bass, dub, and percussive club elements, influenced by UK garage & funky, hip hop, R&B, and pop. I go up to 145 bpm back to 95 bpm into All I Need. That is..... a place to find .. to celebrate .. with you <3

Intercept Mix Series 22 - Andy

The sixth Foresight Mix has been taken care of by lovely human and artist Andy. You could know Andy from her Breezing and Surging show at Radio Radio, her multidisciplinary collective POS, or one of her exhilarating sets in, around, and beyond Amsterdam. 

In this vibrant and eclectic mix, Andy went all out within the scope of an hour, starting with warm and soothing 120 bpm house and ending with 150 bpm contemporary tracks.
