I had the privilege of playing a late-in-the-night set for a wonderfully full cuddlepuddle floor at the kiez burn decompression night at Birgit, Berlin. What a beautiful collection of humans. I appreciate Berlin‘s burner community so much - the love, generosity, creativity, dedication and expertise are through the roof.

I was a little experimental at times in this set... let me know what you think, all feedback is welcome!

Our next chameleon, Katschinka, surprised us with another three-hour live recording captured at an event by our friends from Afterhour Sounds and Sumpfkrüge.

Arula's sensual, dark feminine set from Camp Kiss on Friday night and Burning Man 2024💋

When I was invited to play a set for 'The Dark Feminine' act at the Friday night Cave of Curiosity event, I felt an undeniable, full-body yes. The dark feminine archetype is woven deeply into my being, and crafting a musical journey that embodies its sensual, shadowy essence is one of my deepest pleasures.

As with every Kiss party, the air was charged with energy, a beautiful dance of souls weaving through the many activated spaces. Playing in the tea house—a space that pulses with intimacy and allure—was pure magic. I dedicate this set to my connection with the dark feminine's enchantment and to those who embrace their full spectrum, for the light cannot exist without the dark.

This set began with an enticing uptempo groove, gradually slipping into a slow, delicious downtempo, laced with a few of my originals and even an unreleased track. To those who found sanctuary in the tea space, thank you for sharing the night with me. I’m deeply grateful for your presence and energy.

A little backgound on what brings me to be here...

My musical life started in the disciplined but narrow world of classical music. In my teens I had several powerful group musical experiences that looking back I would class as genuine peak experiences, and these lit a fire in me, setting my direction for the next 15 years.

I was lucky enough to study and train at the Royal College of Music in London before doing a masters in jazz composition and performance, after which I stepped out into the world as a freelance musician. However, after around 10 years I had lost the meaning, enjoyment and purpose that had initially carried me into the profession, and I knew I had to stop. From one day to the next I put my life as a musician down and went an entirely different professional path. But I knew that music would come back to me when the time was right. Another decade or so later - with a whole lot of life in between - here I am.

Most of the music I play is in ceremonial, shamanic and ritualistic contexts, but there is something about the sacred chaos of raves, parties and festivals that I experience as one of the highest forms of collective beauty. It is into these spaces that I offer the music that I share here.
