APOCALIPSIS proudly presents 'Sonoras,' the latest EP from Colombian-American composer, producer, and DJ Sebastian Maria.


About 'Sonoras':
Dropping on August 11th, the 4-track EP is a meditation on channeled chaos, inviting a return to intuitive movement both as a creator and as a listener. Sonoras promises constantly-evolving soundscapes that shapeshift between pitched vocal performances, drum breaks, and multi-layered diasporic references. 
 
“Juego de Cambios” (“Game of Changes”), referencing the ancient Chinese divination text I Ching, enters a collision point between chance, fate, free will, determinism, disarray, and order under reverberations of a Korg Minilogue synthesizer. “Dale Diente” (“Give it a bite”) merges mutant accordion melodies, sub bass, and staccato-like drums for industrial-leaning storytelling.

“Siglo Acelerado” (“Accelerated Century”) enters digital hyperspeed territory, exploring younger generations’ experience of the exponential speed of tech development and media consumption. “Alegria” (“Joy”), features a vocal performance and co-writing duties by Silas. The culminating track offers world-making that investigates the extreme yet interconnected states of death and ecstatic happiness, bridging cumbia ballads and trance influences.


About Sebastian Maria:
Sebastian Maria’s work draws upon diverse influences including música urbana, reggaeton, musique concrète, chance operations, and field recordings– celebrating and signaling a debt to diasporic memory while remaining individual in calculation. He “[pulls dexterously] from the trappings and tokens of bit-crushed harsh noise, sound art, glitch, and field recording while remaining firmly aware of the cultural residues to which they are so dedicated.” (Igloo Magazine). 
 
Maria is the co-founder of the New York-based experimental Latinx collective Sazón Department, also including Magnolia Polaris and Probablyourdaddy. Maria has performed at MoMa PS1 Warm Up 2020 and hosts a monthly show on The Lot Radio. His 2019 record, 'LUNITAS,' was listed as one of the “Best Albums of 2019” by Tiny Mixtapes.

Kaili is an underground legend, whose versatile and adventurous approach to blending genre and taste keeps the mightiest dancers and partiers on their hands, toes, and feet. Previously, she was based in LA, playing all the iconic parties from Mustache to Rail Up, and now she’s taking NYC by storm. Though she’s a coast-to-coast underground staple, her sound is global. She effortlessly combines sounds from all over the world such as kuduro, drill, batida, UKG, baile funk, and footwork. Kaili has opened for international heavy hitters such as DJ Lag, Mexican Jihad, Tayhana, Coucou Chloe, and so much more. 

Kaili is a multi-faceted artist with a whole body of work for us to discover. When she’s not DJing, she works in the visual and 3D space making beautiful artwork and making the internet more glam. If you can’t keep up with all the cool things she’s doing IRL, thankfully you can catch her online radio show “BODYWORK” on NTS where she “brings you the practice of Bodywork, an hour-long cleansing ritual of club music traversing time and locality, applying pressure where it's needed in order to release…” anytime you want. “This mix was a joy to make! My intention was to create something that could soundtrack anything from a relaxed midday groove, to a commute, to an evening kickback. It combines my love for classic R&B and fun vocal edits with what I would consider more of what I'm listening to—rap, drill, a sprinkling of club and amapiano, and even a little ambient. It's definitely something that you can move to, and also has some twists and turns to keep it interesting.“
