Light Bleeds From The Horizon

Kulning ("calling") is a type of European herding call used by women to bring livestock - cows, goats, etc - down from mountainous grazing pastures at the end of the day. Other uses of the extended vocal technique include scaring off predators and communicating with neighboring farmers across remote alpine regions.

This sketch was developed in collaboration with Quatuor Bozzini during their spring 2018 Vancouver Composers Lab.
