A song about the Holocaust. Chosen by the government of the Netherlands to represent their country during the European celebration of the 50th year since WW II ended. Admired by Elie Wiesel. And now, a slap in the face to Trump and his administration, who don't dare utter the word "Jew" or the phrase "anti-Semitism" as they pretend to care about Holocaust Remembrance Day. 
To my friends who say "His son-in-law is Jewish. It's okay." I say - it is NOT okay. It is a disgrace. Steve Bannon is drafting the executive orders for our country, while the  ostensible leader of the free world spends his time complaining on Twitter and watching TV. 
I remember riding in a cab with my former manager forty years ago, when I was twenty-five. The newscaster commented that gay people should not be permitted to teach in the schools, and my manager said "They shouldn't be allowed around young children. Absolutely correct." 
In confusion, I said "But... I'M gay." And her response? "Oh, but you're one of the 'good ones'."
There will always be those who say "Oh, but you're one of the good Jews" "the good blacks" "the good gays". Do not believe that will exempt you from the knock in the night.

we recorded this on a multitrack machine that kept dying on us, we ended up having to borrow someone else's equipment to get it partially finished , we could go no further. I was leaving for my first trip to Europe in the Spring of '89 and we never got a chance to continue working on it. one fortunate result of this project: while in Greece the following winter, Greg sent me an album cover he's come up with on his mac that I felt was not quite right, I went in search of a graphic artist to make changes and ended up meeting my wife, Alice. her sister Matilda was the graphic artist that took on the project the month before I left to go home to Texas.

The lyrics of this song were first written at a time when I didn't always feel like I belonged. I then made a choice to change the point of view so instead of writing a song about someone needing help, it became from the perspective of someone offering help, in the hope the song could be the comforter rather than a cry for comfort. Two months after writing the song, my partner Morten had a devastating stroke and I decided I wanted to complete the song and dedicate it to him. Per Ladegård heard the song and offered to record it for me. After many months in hospital and then rehabilitation Morten was finally able to come home and was with me in the studio when I recorded the song.

Fall Back Onto Me

I just pulled this song I wrote in 1978 off of a very old cassette tape. The 'percolator' in the first verse kind of dates the song (and me) a little. ;-)
