Welcoming in our podcast series the creator of the events Art Bei Ton and Ambient Sleepers, Hypnotic Black Magic, a Berlin-based DJ inspired by dark/deep/hypnotic techno, atmospheric ambient and ritualistic drums.

Deftly merging her background in sound design with techno and its real world applications, Toxido Mask is a shadowy DJ/Producer who calls Berlin home and has been challenging the fringe of her craft for over a decade. Her fastidious selections and skill on the decks are nothing short of legendary, providing experiences that rumble and vibrate with mystical power, characterised by a raw intensity and fragile balance between ‘harmony and disharmony, clarity and distortion’, a testament to the transformative nature of the genre and her keen understanding of it. She’s a Tresor resident and curator of the OMM Transmission Podcast and party series, an outlet for further explorations into the murky world of this defiant sound. Productions too have offered a glimpse into the shifting sands of her percussive mayhem with releases on Semantica Records, Aneelhi and Pregnant Void. Toxido’s paradigm has found form wherever possible and proven her singular vision can constantly change and provoke. Bassiani Podcast 274 is a dose of primal techno that radiates and consumes its listener, expansive and potent beats from a formidable talent.

Aiken is a Spanish artist born in the mid-80s, influenced by diverse sources such as Detroit techno, the Berlin sound, and music produced in the UK, among others. As a DJ, his sets cover a wide spectrum of sounds ranging from the purest forms of techno to deeper variations, as well as electro and IDM. As a producer, after releasing on several digital labels, he made his physical debut in 2011 with the EP “Mer” on Semantica Records. Since then, his releases on Non Series, KEY Vinyl, and Chronicle have been charted and supported by leading figures in the global techno scene. In 2015, he launched his own platform, Timeline, with the aim of expressing his creativity by combining different influences. All of these projects have contributed to his DJ sets being enjoyed in top clubs across countries such as England, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, and Italy.

We welcome Italian born artist ‘ØSC’ as our next guest in the series. Immersed in the Sicilian landscapes growing up, Riccardo’s inspiration stems from the deep sea, Apennine mountains and the vast history of Italy’s coast.

With releases on labels such as ‘Khoros’, ‘Dosis’ and ‘Orbitando’, ØSC has become well respected in the current electronic music scene. He believes his ‘Quetzal’ EP, released on ‘Lotus Parable’, is most representative of his introspective journey so far.

Enthralled by the elements, soft sighing winds and the idyllic embrace of the deep serene; Riccardo aims to bridge the pulsating rhythm of music, with the perpetual rhythm of nature that we live and breathe.

Born and raised in Rome, Luigi Tozzi is undoubtedly one of the most prolific and outstanding talents of his generation to come out of Italy. Slip into any record store worth its salt, or clubs from Tbilisi to Lisbon and you’ll find traces of his work there; his signature sound has sold its share of records true, but also deeply influenced the work of many of his contemporaries. His expansive compositions intimately tied to the space they’re heard in, circling in perfect arcs below the water’s surface, where sunlight becomes scarce and a connection with sound paramount. Reformulating not only dub. techno and ambient, but a trove of memories diving off the coast of Sicily’s neighbour Salina (and with the help of analog digital tools, VSTs and controllers during live performances), Tozzi has developed a mastery for hypnotic rhythms like nothing you’ve heard before. His close working relationship with Swedish output Hypnus, as well as Outis and Non-Series have pushed his aquatic sound to it’s absolute limit, creating a world of poignant textures that have given his genre the gift of new horizons. Here he visits the Podcast for an epic 128 minutes that delve into his abyssal world, haunting rumbles and immersive techno, a ghostly, shimmering live-set recorded at Bassiani.

A core member of the Harmony Rec. crew, Yan has been digging for deeper and dubby techno since 2014 and has become one of the finest in his craft. Together with his closest pal Alfred Czital he is a resident of the Yuggadus night – the sort of an extension of the sound and activities they are devoted to with Harmony. Whether he draws from organic techno, rich minimal or let’s his housy side speak, his emphasis on the groove earned him a steady supply of peak time bookings and growing number of international invites. Yan’s secret power lies in closing sets, he’s able to make endings feel like new beginnings.

The plateaus of dense electrical fields foster the creative insurgency that’s necessary to occupy the attention of the worlds musical soldiers and the correspondence you’d exchange with yourself would dissolve into an acknowledgment of attachment.  It’s these audible depth charges that rattle your consciousness and in turn give you a fresh vista on your own progress, something our guest this week incites facilely.  He’s still harvesting the success of last year’s release ‘Shaman’s Path’ and rightly so – it was one of the albums of the year for us.  During the course of the production sequence which has facilitated the furtherance on Prologue, he’s maintained a heavy club and festival schedule across Europe.

We dropped the touring confirmation at the start of the month – Dino Sabatini will be commencing his assault on Australia in March.  We’re lining up the first show in Brisbane with the White Rhino crew.  Anomaly in Sydney are fronting up the following night at One22 and closing the tour will be Billion Underground’s showing on March 08 in Melbourne.  This addition to the mix series is an apt sequel to an evolving saga – the rolling drugged electronica mirrors the events that will transpire.
