We are thrilled to present this mix by Chicago based JS Alvarez for our 39th entry in the series. Both Adam and I admire what Jeremy contributes to the music scene with their podcast and event series Research & Development.

JS Alvarez is a shape shifting lizard that has learned human behavior from living in cities such as Chicago and Miami. He succumbs to no one genre and can be found exploring the depths of mutant techno and unruly bass music alike.

He is the founding member of Research & Development which ignited in the iconic Chicago mainstay of Smartbar. The event series has moved on to host community focused events centered on a wide variety of often cutting edge electronic sounds at venues like Podlasie Club, The Whistler and various DIY spaces. R&D also hosts a biweekly podcast 100+ episodes deep ranging from rising talents, hometown heroes and well established DJs and producers from North America and around the world.

He's shared the booth with artists such as DVS1, Veronika Vasicka, D.Dan, Hodge and others. His mixes have been featured on NTS Radio, Mutant Radio and SutroFM among others. Catch him at The Great Beyond this July! 

I was trying to find a very textured sound within the first quarter of the mix. My attempt at some sort of atmospheric sci-fi horror score followed by something a bit more hypnotic. By the end of the mix I wanted those vibes to explode into something highly rhythmic. Something to shatter what came before and get the sweat dripping off the walls.

Brought on as a Format Recordings resident in 2018, Adam Pecho has since made his mark as a staple of the Chicago underground techno scene. From finding himself on the dancefloor of a dark and dirty warehouse, grooving to the intricately woven soundscapes, to learning how to create and manipulate the very music that moved him. 

Adam’s sound is rooted in techno, occasionally venturing into ambient, drone, and abstract territory, placing carefully designed elements into his productions. His debut EP ‘Manufacture.Distribute’ led him to the top of Beatport’s release charts and helped to establish a commanding presence as not only a DJ, but a prolific producer. 

Over the years, Adam has played alongside globally recognized artists such as Fjaak and 999999999, as well as P.E.A.R.L., Norbak, Adriana Lopez, and more. 

Recently, Adam Pecho launched his own label ‘Pechno Records’ and has worked alongside a number of similar producers to create what he calls ‘The Cookout’ - a new series of albums designed to emphasize the power of collaboration. 

Expanding on this newly built catalog of music is where Adam has set his sights. His future lies in the exploration of new creative outlets where his unique style and sound can be experienced by others.

This was a deep dive into soundscapes, scores and local artists and featured a true dive into the cerebral response of music in a setting for immersion into the auditory field. 

This mix begins with an ode to the mother of electronic music production techniques, Delia Derbyshire, and features a snippet of the original BBC Radio broadcast of 'The Dreams', an all tape reel to reel recording of sampling techniques that founded the cornerstone of Electronic Music and it's processes.

Additionally, this mix delves deep into the Minneapolis artist pool of EBM, Ambient, and electronic works by artists such as Kiisu, Jesse Whittney, and Terr The Om alongside pieces by Max Cooper, Shlomo, and Hypoxia.
