My name is Adam Walton. I’m from Mold in north Wales. I love chords, melodies and writing songs inspired by the likes of The Kinks, Nick Drake and Elliott Smith.  ‘Mary Sees UFO’s’ was originally released exactly a year ago. Back then, my new solo album ‘Afal’ was at the pressing plant, the test pressings had been OK’d, and I was expecting 300 copies of the album to arrive imminently.

But the albums didn’t arrive in April… or May… in fact, they didn’t arrive until December. And then, when they did arrive, there were flaws in the vinyl on each and every copy. And so another wait began until late January. 

The wait was - ultimately - worth it, and the album will finally be released on Friday 29th April 2022. 

I wrote and recorded the album in the small hours after producing Janice Long’s show on BBC Radio Wales. Low volume, lo-fidelity psychedelic folk songs, recorded minimally, with as much natural grain in the recordings as possible… eschewing autotune, multiple takes and any urge for perfection.

The music Janice was championing on her show was undoubtedly an influence - Seatbelts, Katherine Priddy, Ali Horn and Kathryn Williams, in particular - and the album itself is dedicated to Janice, who died on Christmas Day and was a great friend as well as an inspirational colleague who it was a privilege to work with.

‘Mary Sees UFO’s’ is on the album; ‘Have you Seen Lyra Today?’ is only available on the EP in the great tradition of exclusive B-sides.

Both songs were written and recorded at home by me. The title track was mastered by Russ Hayes at Orange Sound Studios in Penmaenmawr (Kidsmoke, Campfire Social, Peaness).

The single will be available via the usual download / streaming outlets from April 15th 2022.

There will be an album - 'Afal' - a little later in the year. It's all finished and off to be pressed at the magic vinyl sonic induction factory.

'Have You Seen Lyra Today?' won't be on the album. It had a late night out and this is its punishment. It laughed when I told it.

All these songs were recorded at home.

My neighbours are saints, and my garden is very very overgrown, but you only live once, right?

The Immediate are a three-piece indie, power pop band from Mold in north Wales.

We release our Mold EP on Friday 3rd March 2017. The EP will be available to buy on limited edition CD and digitally via bandcamp / iTunes etc.

Mold features 4 brand new recordings, 3 of which are exclusive to the EP.

Lead track, What’s The Matter Kevin Jones?, is a song about some of the kids we went to the Alun School with, who weren’t as fortunate as us and didn’t make it into their 30’s. 

Light Dimensions is the first song we wrote when we reconvened after a long hiatus.

Manbuoy is the title track of our forthcoming debut album, however it does not feature on the album itself. It’s a mostly spoken-word piece that exaggerates all of its writer’s worst qualities.

Mold was recorded at Orange Sound Studios in Penmaenmawr, North Wales by Russ Hayes, who has worked on recordings by Peaness, Campfire Social, Kidsmoke, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Billy Bibby and the Wry Smiles.

The sleeve design was done by Paul Maurice from Wrexham. It’s a detail of Shire Hall, the brutalist former seat of Flintshire County Council that sits on a hill, above Mold town centre.

The Mold EP will be launched at a hometown gig at Theatr Clwyd, Mold on Friday, 3rd. March. We’ll be joined by our friends Campfire Social and Skellums. Tickets are £7 and available here:

We originally split in 1997 due to frustration, an argument over a mouth organ and the success of Stereophonics.

We released one single (unaccountably popular in Sweden), made every conceivable mistake in the How To Be A Successful Indie Band handbook, toured with some excellent bands (Mansun, 60ft Dolls, Dodgy) and flickered out, leaving behind the memory of some great gigs, a few fine songs, and little else.

In March 2016, we reconvened to repair friendships and renew tinnitus. New songs came much more easily than the old ones, probably because we are playing to please only ourselves - with no thoughts of success or acclaim - for the first time in our existence.

There is more truth and resonance in our songs now than ever before. And power. And invention. We write songs about hope and love in the face of the moribund, daily grind. 

You will possibly hear fragments and echoes of the following artists in our sound (The Jam, Wire, XTC, Pixies, Badfinger, REM, Dr Feelgood, Small Faces, Husker Du, The Who, Ride, Big Star, The Cure, Joy Formidable, The Go-Betweens, Teenage Fanclub), but nothing has been plagiarised or misappropriated to mask a deficiency of our own ideas.
