At Addictech we’ve been fans of Cord for many years, a Hungarian producer that has been delivering glitch since the turn of the century. His latest Birdie EP is an excellent execution of originality and production quality. 

The title track is inspired by a traditional Hungarian folk song. The original song lends its harmonies, the vocals are transformed beyond recognition, but the track keeps its original flavor. Rolling neuro basses spiced with pads and loads of granular effects originated from the folk source; these all add to the special and colorful feeling of this spectacular track.

Seduction is a bit less melodic, but reflects a uniquely aural landscape. A nicely shuffled groove, robotic voices, exciting glitches and layers of sound tear apart the speakers with a fractal waveform.

The third track begins with a distinct atmosphere, then vocoded beats foreshadow what’s next. The drums start supported by the bassline, interweaved melodies accompany the drones, contrasting a peaceful theme during the breakdown.

The closing track is a perfect ending. Polyphonic bells, melodic reese bass and accustoming arpeggios roll with a changing pace, ensuring the listener this new EP is more than a worthy restart after Cord's few years off.

Succeeding the release of Desert Dwellers’ monumental Breath album, Amani and Treavor continue their patronage to cultural celebration and musical heritage with Breath Reimagined Vol. 1. Featuring an abundance of new-comers to the Desert Dwellers sound, this inaugural volume shall precede a trilogy of remix albums to come from the ingenious duo. Throughout Breath Reimagined, 14 brilliant producers within the psychedelic and world-fusion communities exhibit 14 euphonious recreations, each derived from one of the original 10 tracks.

Falling into an altered state of consciousness, Halfred recreates “Dreams Within a Dream” with dub bestrewn over alluring instrumentals. Once you leave your meditative state, Nanosphere merges seductive instrumentation with funky low frequencies as we continue “Traversing the Endless Road.” Forging ahead, Gumi guides you through a turbulent wind of dynamic and atmospheric beats in “Closed Eyes in a Dust Storm.” Traveling by foot, you discover the “One That Shows The Way” through MantisMash’s sonorous synths and Somatoast’s soprano rendition. 

As you begin “Longing For Home,” DISSØLV raises the original downtempo piece an octave higher to create a sonic soundscape while Mindex incorporates elements of glitch. Mumukshu reinvents the original global folk “At Last, Our Refugee” track into a resounding four-minute bass voyage that overlays an accelerated tribal trap foundation. “Praise Her, the Fire Keeper” receives reimaginations from Pitch Black, who adds a bass backdrop to the tranquil piece, and TRIBONE, who takes the composition underground. As listeners continue to explore the “Realms of Splendor,” DRRTYWULVZ commences a series of bass undertones as metal continuously rattles together in Erothyme’s recreation. Globular’s Vicious Ether Remix of “To Be the Air” fosters an upbeat environment for the buoyant acoustic atmosphere. Compelling you back into deep meditation as Breath Reimagined concludes, Bluetech’s Berlin School Mix introduces Holotropic Breathwork to “Breathing the Mysteries.”

A “Tipping point” is the point at which a series of small changes or incidents becomes significant enough to cause a larger, more important change.

This sombre body of music was named and conceptualised in 2019. Written in both 2019 and the start of 2020, prior to the period we have all endured.

It has surely been a global human drama of enormous scale. This included a massive de-acceleration. A moment shared together, yet apart.

What a unique moment for our animal kin to breathe and our skys to clear to expose the smog shrouded mountains that have been hidden for decades in our consumption.

What a strange year of human existence! I hope you have found the inspiration in that space for positive growth..

There were no changes in 2020 that were small. But inside those walls and inside my being, there was certainly many small changes and a tipping point is well and truly in action.

How will it play out in the world?

We sit on the cusp of some old or new trajectories.
