As we stumble into October, wondering where the hell 2016 went exactly, the unmistakeable chill of English weather returns to London’s air, and drops all of our moods somewhat. Fortunately, Bristol-based Imba is dropping more than temperatures, with his debut single ‘Ravana/From Within’ set to light up the dance-floor this coming winter. Having made quite the impression with his track ‘Persistence featuring Leah Costello’ – the Liquifyah crew member has delivered 2 solid tracks in this release.

‘Ravana’ captures the essence of this seasonal change, with chilling ethereal vocals, tonal percussion and menacing textures giving body the warming, rattling bassline. ’From Within’ meanwhile is more suitable of cold winters morning. Cold melodic tones usher in cooling pads, letting a warm sub bass take point under a drum break with an undeniably old school flavour.

This pair of solid rollers is sure to bring Imba to the forefront of the newcomers breaking out into the scene this year.

Drum & Bass has always been an interesting phenomenon in Poland. Although not often attributed as being one of its primary bases in Europe, it’s produced some of the most exciting talent to come forward across the scene. And one of these artists is 20 years old 174bpm stalwart Adrian Rybka, who also goes by his pseudonym Satl. Having had regular support from the likes of heavyweight DJs Fabio & Grooverider, Friction, LTJ Bukem, Artifical Intelligence and DJ Marky, he’s become a staple on the European club circuit.

Having already had releases on the likes of Innerground, SGN:LTD, Integral and more, ‘From Time’ sees him move onto the Soul Trader imprint. Alongside collaborator Harland, his first offering ‘Alone’ takes you into sub-terranean levels, moving away from any of the more commercial sounds which have littered drum & bass and instead provides an intimidating soundscape. If this track is anything to go by, neither Satl nor Harland are prepared to wind down their production standard and instead go in all guns blazing, with smashing kick and a sub bass that ricochets from start to finish.

Addictive Behaviour’s next instalment sees a welcome return of the musically gifted Felix Raymon supported by the talented vocal licks of Jamal Dilmen. Felix’s humble beginnings with Addictive kicked off in 2018 alongside local Bochum based producers and good friends Smuskind, collaborating on their breakthrough Hydro EP. Following this Felix made numerous appearances on Addictive compilations etching out his own unique tech-fused melancholic sound before dropping his debut solo EP, Bad Trip. 

Now he’s back with two cuts that express the deepest liquid tones we’ve seen yet from the rapidly ascending producer. Opening the release with Lonely Now, a real summer warmer, building its momentum with chord progression and peaking into a spine tingling mix as the subtle urban lyrics of Jamal Dilmen rain down upon the chest pounding subby waves. On the flip is Ego, another liquid drenched roller but characterized with Felix’s more familiar tech growls and gravelly vibes, again complimented with vocals from Jamal but with a slightly more sinister undertone.

Since Felix’s debut EP on Addictive Behaviour he’s music has been turning heads with each and every release. Tipped as ‘one to watch’ by the likes of UKF and it’s no wonder why listening to these two top class productions. You can be sure to expect a whole lot more from Felix Raymon in the future.
