Der Klassiker: Sie kam nach Berlin, ist in der Kulturbrauerei gelandet und hat sich gedacht, da muss es noch mehr geben… Gesucht, gefunden, verliebt. Nach 8 Jahren Berlin ist Giraffensprache komplett in die elektronische Welt eingetaucht und so dankbar dafür noch Clubs wie die Bar25 miterlebt haben zu dürfen. Zurück in Freiburg organisierte sie mit ihren Freunden kleine Festivals und spielte Klarinette zu den Techno-Sets ihres Bruders. Der Wechsel zum Mischpult begann während ihrer Elternzeit, Anfang 2019: Es war Winter, sie genoss die Zeit mit ihrem Baby, kaufte das DJ Equipment und holte sich ein Teil der elektronischen Welt zu sich nach Hause. Seitdem ist das Auflegen zu einem festen Bestandteil in ihrem Leben geworden. Sie machte ihre ersten Schritte bei lokalen Festivals und Radioshows, ihr Sound ist eine Symbiose aus harten Bässen und melodischer Leichtigkeit.

INTERVIEW:
1. Was hat dich dazu bewegt mit dem Auflegen anzufangen?
Giraffensprache: Hinter dem Mischpult stand ich schon öfters, allerdings mit der Klarinette in der Hand. Ich spielte Klarinette zu den Techno-Sets meines Bruders, auf die Idee selbst aufzulegen bin ich aber lange Zeit einfach nicht gekommen. Der ausschlaggebende Grund mit dem Auflegen zu beginnen war tatsächlich die Geburt unseres Sohnes. Es war... 

2. Dein Name hat ja auch eine besondere Bedeutung, magst du uns davon erzählen?
G: „Giraffensprache“ ist Teil der Gewaltfreien Kommunikation (GfK) nach M. Rosenberg und steht für eine respektvolle Sprache und Empathie. Während meiner Elternzeit habe ich zwei Lieben entdeckt: unser Baby und die Leidenschaft fürs Auflegen. Ich habe mich intensiv mit der Frage beschäftigt: Wie möchte ich mit meiner neuen kleinen Familie zusammenleben? So bin ich auf die Methode der GFK gekommen, habe mich schockverliebt und feiere (und übe!!) diese Entdeckung jeden Tag. 
Mit meinem Namen möchte ich mich selbst und andere an eine respektvolle Kommunikation auf und außerhalb der Tanzfläche erinnern.

3. Was wünschst du dir, sollte in Zukunft in der Clubszene .anders laufen? 
G: Erst mal möchte ich sagen, dass ich mich gerade in der elektronischen Clubszene sehr wohl fühle und auch sehe wie sich immer mehr für die „Safer Spaces“ eingesetzt wird. Vor allem schätze ich die voranschreitende Etablierung von Awareness-Teams, die sich für emanzipierte Partys einsetzen auf denen sich alle wohlfühlen können. In dieser ganzen DJ-Welt bin ich einfach sehr grün hinter den Ohren. Ich weiß, dass ich auflegen will, bin aber nicht in „diesem“ Netzwerk. Für Newcomer ohne Netzwerk ist es gar nicht so leicht auf die andere Seite der Tanzfläche zu kommen, hinter das Mischpult. Ich wünsche mir noch mehr Möglichkeiten sich zeigen, auflegen und überzeugen zu können. Denn nur, wenn wir auflegen können, können wir auch gehört werden und in das Netzwerk hineinwachsen. Ich glaube die Qualität von Partys nimmt nicht ab, wenn mehr Newcomer auflegen.


4. Gibt es ein Thema, das dir gerade sehr am Herzen liegt als Mutter und DJ?
G: Das Thema „mehr Diversität hinter dem Mischpult“ wird immer lauter – dazu gehören für mich auch Mütter. Dass das gar nicht so trivial ist durchlebe ich gerade selbst. Kurz nach der Geburt unseres Sohnes wurde mir bewusst, dass ich selbst auflegen und in Clubs oder auf Festivals spielen möchte. Schlechtes Timing? Ich muss zugeben, dass ich mir selbst viele Fragen gestellt habe: Kann ich auf Partys auflegen, wenn ich ein kleines Kind habe? Wie genau soll das gehen? Wie passt das Auflegen, die Feierszene und das Muttersein zusammen? 

Dazu kommen die Irritationen aus der Gesellschaft zu dieser Mama-DJ Kombination. Selbst wenn diese Irritationen...

Exhilarating tech house, house with an edge and techno tracks, that's what you can expect from major K's sets.

Once the host of Teknoville and Dance Charts at the universally praised Belgian radio station Studio Brussel, major K (real name: Kevin Major) always had dance music in his pulsating heart.

A DJ since his high school years, he since played at venues like La Rocca, Lima, Club Melk, at festivals like Laundry Day and Ostend Beach, and even travelled abroad, with sets in New York City and the Turkish delight that is Kemer.

He’s founder and label boss of record label Flash Forward Presents too (releasing a.o. his own tracks), hosts parties a couple of times a year, and puts out his own Flash Forward Presents podcast on a.o. Underground Kollektiv Radio, all with this bottom line: ‘Let the night make us unstoppable’. Too right!

“An unseen balance between light and darkness”

Scattering for many years between different underground music genres, this frequency collided with the techno soundscape in 2016, creating an outburst of energy.

Equipped with a rumbling, driving, and unseen dedication to his passion, his journey began...

After he took the Belgian MUSICASA producer’s education, as a first step to pursuing his dream, he quickly released EP's and remixes on melodic techno labels such as SMR Underground, Melodia Records, Tanzgemeinschaft, and Papaya music.

After releasing and performing on various stages, and through the process of producing and self-awareness, he felt the melodic techno genre wasn’t the perfect reflection of what inspired and drove him.

In 2022 he had a change of heart as he started focusing more on
underground hypnotic, atmospheric and ambient techno, reaching for that inner spirit and dynamic balance. This resulted in releases on some of the biggest labels in the hypnotic scene like DORIAN, The Gods Planet, BAHN, Khoros, Informa, Space Textures, Arcadia,... with many more on the way.

Host of the podcast ‘Adjust (BE) Invites’ (2020-2023), he invited numerous DJ’s and Producers to make a signature guest mix, where the DJ/producer is the key element.

For over 130 episodes spreading over 3 years and reaching new listeners each month, the fanbase and mutual respect between colleagues kept growing daily.

In 2023 he started a new and hypnotic/deep-techno-exclusive podcast called ‘Andhera’, which translates to ‘darkness’ in Sanskrit. With every Full Moon or Solar Eclipse, a talented and highly respected DJ/producer creates a unique story.

An artist, hand-picked by himself, whom he highly admires, respects and who empowers and understands techno’s dark, ambient and emotional side.⁠

His style of playing and producing can be described as a perfectly, yet delicate, carved out balance between light and darkness, melancholic and emotionally charged. Cinematic sounds, rich and full of atmospheres, super evocative soundscapes with an inexplicable soul that can only be grasped when fully immersed into it.
