Exclusive: Rebolledo & Roman Flügel - Star Stuff

Star Stuff. Star stuck. Legendary stuff. For Live At Robert Johnson's and Riotvan's collaborative EP exceptional artists Rebolledo and Roman Flügel team up to deliver the A1 of the five tracker, that also contains works from Fort Romeau & Panthera Krause, Jennifer Touch & Chinaski, New Hook & Perel, Horkheimer & Gregor Habicht & Peter Invasion and the initially mentioned piece Star Stuff from Roman and Mauricio. With their bubbly synth-disco club-take the artists deliver a heavily addictive as well as dynamically dancefloor decoder as if neither one of the artist had done something different. However, it's been a moment since Rebolledo last put some music out, either under a solo alias or the Pachanga Boys, contrary to Roman who just released his eigth album Eating Darkness on Gerd Janson's Running Back label. Having both artist collaborating on one piece is invariably something exquisite and owed to the fusing artistical environs for this special release – And You?

It's hard to believe DC Salas has yet to appear on Pets. A kindred spirit of Catz 'n Dogz, their paths have crossed many times and their sounds have crossed even more. Sharing a similar vision for deep, explorative, exciting and innovative house and techno, a release like this was only a matter of time.

Following big releases on Slowciety and Correspondant, Salas eases us into 2021 with four more wide-ranging cuts. 'Le Réveil' rings the alarm and wakes us up. An electrified maze of melodic layers and arpeggios, there's a great sense of mid 90s German house sounds that would eventually spill into the trance diaspora. Majestic, playful and crystal clean.

'Her Smile' takes us even deeper down the rabbit hole as acidic entrails weave in and out of the beats while more cosmic leads layer over the top. Reaching a great melodic crescendo mid-way, it's yet another great storytelling tune. And it's backed by two more late night delights: 'Another Chapter' takes us deeper and darker into the mix with a soaking wet, jelly-like bassline and big pads and chords that are reminiscent of Justin Martin or Ben Watt before 'The Morning Dance' brings us back home. Broken drums, clipped horn leads, a jacking spirit and an acid breakdown you could cook your breakfast eggs on. Good morning, good afternoon, good evening and goodnight. A release like this can be played at any time of day.

It has been a long running gag at KOMPAKT that there is an adversity to our male staff having a mustache. The truth is that there are scarce few in the history of our company who have managed to get away with having a furry friend on their face. But due to the pandemic and lockdown, the staff Zoom meetings were confronted with an unprecedented snot mop overgrowth.

The solution was right under our noses. We had become entranced with a producer from Paris that has successfully managed to take the torch from the golden age of Gigolo fueled electro-pop and merge it with that signature Kompakt sexiness we crave and that we hope you hear in many of our club tracks.

He goes by the name of Captain Mustache. He has brought to Kompakt tolerance and acceptance for those who whistle with a bristle. Fred is anything but a crumb catcher and has an exemplary but short history of releases. Be it with Chicks On Speed, Correspondant, Bordello A Parigi or Helena Hauf’s Return To Disorder.  And now we present this fine double header. Play Paul (on vocals) joins for the title track called “Everything” and it is just that.  “Pulsions Organiques" brings a somewhat broken beat to his electro flavor saver tendencies. And an instrumental of “Everything” rounds things off for those who like it a little more lower brow.

Trouw, Amsterdam's premier club venue, continues its run of remarkable, one-of-a-kind releases. 
After exploring the deeper aspects of techno with his debut album "Vapour", Patrice Bäumel pulls out all the stops on Trouw's latest release. Hearing "Mike Tyson" on a good club system is a physical experience, a track that packs an excessive amount of punch and sonic characteristics that - much like Bäumel's biggest hit to date, "Roar" - cannot be ignored. Very much primetime material. 
"The Threat" is a different sort of animal. It is a heaving, angry and dark piece of bass music dominated by haunting vocoder sounds and snares like whiplashes. 
Max Cooper does what he does best on his remix for "Mike Tyson" - adding a bit of Blade Runner-esque melancholy plus a dose of magic stardust to the original, his eyes fixed firmly on the future. The man is a sound design genius and it shows in his delicate, detail-rich reconstruction.

Exclusive: Zombies In Miami - Fantasy

Run by Mike Sacchetti and Ivan De La Rouch Logical Records readies its next catalogue number, Meteors EP – a various artist potpourri with music from the label bosses themselves, Cornelius Doctor, Local Suicide and Zombies In Miami among others. Mexican duo Zombies In Miami, who recently released their album 2712 on Permanent Vacation, contribute their track Fantasy, striking like a coment on planet earth with this one and at least musically 'want to make you move from the bed down to the down to the flo', makin' it so good, you don't wanna leave but they gotta know what's your fantasy.' Staying true to their signature sound the night creatures Canibal & Jenouise, the names behind Zombies In Miami, created a hypnotic Disco-ish take with intriguing chords and a solid pushing bass line as Fantasy definitely brings back those loose yourself in dance moment any electronic music affiliate misses in these times.

AEON is nearing its 50th release. Before we touch that big number, we would like to share a fine record by the honcho himself, Alex Niggemann. The inspiration behind this release was found in experimenting with a vocoder. Alex explains: “society might have us all as robots if we didn’t take care to be open minded - both musically and in general. That was the inspiration and it was great fun to make.”. A view that fits the current zeitgeist perfectly.
The futuristic theme is felt from the offset, as the forward-thinking sound of „Like A Robot“ gets underway. Reverberating beats blend into echoing machine-like vocal samples, before chiming keys give way to a stunning lead synth that feels both emotive and danceable in one. The vocoded vocals meeting a plea to replace the human race with robots, cause the track to have a rather dystopian notion. 
The ‘Technology’ vibe is inspired by late 80ies breakbeat tracks. Once the beat is in full range with the sparkling & upclimbing synths, pictures of vintage B-boys & girls videos, making their acrobatic dance moves, are projected in our minds. A slight twist brings the classic Juno 6 lead synth characterizing the main part.  
For the remix, AEON invited Fabrizio Mammarella, who’s known from his release on DFA, Permanent Vaca- tion or Jennifer Cardini’s Correspondent as well as his collaborations with Lauer as Black Spuma. Mam- marella’s version of ‘Technology’ transforms the break beats in a solid 4 to the floor groove, while the more electro sounding bassline of the original is replaced with a classic Italo inspired synth sequencer that un- doubtedly will please the crowd on the dancefloor. 
The last original track of this EP is called ‘Shepherds’ named after those who control. Poignant strings dive in and out, while the constant loopy groove could bring back memories of musically inspired „Moroder“ nights at good old Studio 54. 
The 49th release on AEON is again a complete pack by the Berlin label.
