Born in 1986, Kimberly Martinez, a singer-songwriter from San Francisco, USA, and Dennis Gundlach, a producer and audio engineer from Berlin, Germany, create a unique fusion of talents. Kimberly’s poetic lyricism, expressed through song and spoken word, intertwines seamlessly with Dennis’s production expertise and lifelong passion for piano. UNBOXING SHADOWS was founded by DJ and artist Exildiscount in Berlin in 2021. Opening the black box of normativity, UNBOXING SHADOWS serves as a safe space in which music can be literally queer – challenging the norm in genre as much as in lived experience.
