Recorded live Oct 3, 2021 in Berlin on Tag der Clubkultur, a day inaugurated last year by the city's Club Commission, in the height of the pandemic, as a way to draw attention to the importance of nightlife artists & spaces, and a way to disperse some much needed grant money.   We so appreciate living in a city that values our importance, creating initiatives like this.  

October 3rd is Germany's reunification day.  The reunification of east and west brought together a generation that was able to start healing themselves to the fresh soundtrack of electronic music.  We are proud to call this place our home, as it is still a magnetic place that draws many from all over the globe, pilgrims of the mother beat.

Después de mudarse de Chicago a Berlín en 2016, Jacob ha estado produciendo y alentando algunos de los eventos queer más queridos de su ciudad adoptiva, particularmente Buttons @radio-buttons y el Whole Festival. Su experiencia multitudinaria con la producción cultural, (ha sido anfitrión de una radio comunitaria, manager de restaurantes y de una galería de arte contemporáneo, vendedor de discos en una legendaria disquería, director de sesiones de meditación guiada y organizador de fiestas disco en un teatro porno gay), demuestran su atención al detalle para lo experiencial y lo efímero, demostrando que la creatividad está en todas partes. El tiempo de inactividad durante la pandemia le dió a Meehan la oportunidad de sumergirse más en la producción musical; Esperen nuevos lanzamientos de él en este 2023!

For the 39th entry in the Fun Fun Mix series, we present dj Jacob Meehan, delivering this amazing mix recorded live at Zenner Club in Berlin on New Year's Day 2023. After relocating from Chicago to Berlin in 2016, Jacob has instigated some of his adopted city's most beloved queer events, particularly Buttons @radio-buttons and WHOLE Festival. His multitudinous background with cultural production - hosting community radio, managing neighborhood restaurants, operating a contemporary art gallery, selling records at a legendary record shop, leading guided meditation sessions, & throwing disco parties in a gay porn theater - inform his attention to detail for the experiential & ephemeral, proving that creativity is everywhere. The downtime of the pandemic afforded Meehan the opportunity to dive further into music production; expect new releases from him in 2023!

Fun Fun Mix 39 - Jacob Meehan (Live at Zenner Berlin)

Jacob Meehan, a native of Roodhouse, Illinois (population 1,700) cut his chops in Chicago, the home of house, while working at Gramaphone Records and throwing/playing parties in and around the city. A major player in the new queer underground, he now resides in Berlin where he has furthered his musical prowess as producer and resident DJ of the much-beloved fête, Buttons, and the epic summer standout, Whole Festival. 

Major Records is pleased to feature the very first single release from Meehan, featuring a remix by our very own Nita Aviance. "Hier" started out with a nod to the forefathers, referencing David Morales and Frankie Knuckles mix of Alison Limerick's "Where Love Lives,” but quickly grew into a deep house dream full of funky synth leads and anthemic arpeggios all layered over some kicky-fresh beats. 

Nita’s remix strips it all down only to build it back up again, leaning into the arpeggios and riding those new wave synths through the dark night and straight into the dawn with her signature diva vocal cut-ups.
