Welcome to the May 2017 Top 10, kicking off this months playlist is a specially unique track on @lumierenoirerecords from artist Chloe entitled Dawn. @yotto makes a graceful return with his brand new track Wilderness Girl which is simplistic but bold with its twisting synth melody & rhythmic percussions. Out also on @azzur-2 this month is another monster from @nanduofficial who I have been closely following, consistently putting out great track after great track, and capping off the list is another gem from @ryan-davis & @solee-music entitled Jima.

The Note V & Di Rugerio - Abusir EP

Coming straight off the back of their Selador debut on the recent Showcase Compilation with their track 'Armanus', Mexican production team Chaty, Tamez & Gabriel I return with their first fully fledged single release for the label, the 'My Escape' EP. 

Something of a sister piece to 'Armanus', the title track is a slice of brooding modern electronic house, full of eastern promise and melancholic textures. With it's distinctive lead Virus synth and Turkish flavoured inflections, it feels like the love child of a Dixon DJ set back to back with Sasha. Yes, that good! 

It also comes with two remixes. The first, a big room monster from Selador's very own Dave Seaman who utilises the original's the lead riff to great effect whilst adding some driving, hypnotic, wonky percussion and a vocal sample so disguised you'll never guess it in a million years. Huge!

Next up is fellow Mexicans, Climbers who head into deeper territory for their interpretation. Losing none of the original's drama, they darken the mood further with a cool and confident workout that radiates sophistication. A sultry seductive beauty if ever there was one. 

And wait, there's more! Adding even more weight to an already hefty package, one of our favourite Berliners, Joal joins the party with a brand new remix of the trio's aforementioned Selador debut track, 'Armanus'. Also taking the deeper route, Joal works his magic with flurries of surging arpeggio adding intensity to the ethereal eastern flavours over a relentlessly solid groove. Ace. 

On top of all this there's even a bonus track too and not just any old token thing that the guys found lying about on their hardrive. 'Honest Perversion' could easily have been a single in it's own right! Yet another expertly crafted piece of electronic dance that as beautiful as it is deadly. Do not miss.

"A two-headed dragon" operating out of the United Arab Emirates capital, Abu Dhabi residents, Alex and Andrew, have created a reputation of mythical proportion through their Lanvary production guise. Now returning to Particles, the duo take flight with the "Penumbra" EP on Particles.

Combining "two different musical perspectives", the Lanvary experiment has proved a considerable success. With over a century of production credits to their name, the duo have hit upon a formula that has seen their work reach a variety of high profile labels since 2010's debut for Underphunk Recordings as the "Airtight" EP on the celebrated Mistique Digital then began a welcome trend for a plethora of original material to find its way onto Stellar Fountain, PHW Elements and Silk Music. With their work supported by Gai Barone, Matan Caspi and Kash Trivedi, Lanvary have garnered the appreciation of fans and peers alike.

A quartet of original tracks split across two EPs has formed the backbone of Lanvary's contribution to the Particles catalogue. October 2015 saw the release of the landmark "Micromegas" EP, while "Slingshot Ride" followed in early 2016. With remixes from Matter and Subandrio following in April, "Mircomegas" continues to derive considerable success. Now adding to that success, a third original EP is a very welcome addition to the Particles autumn schedule through "Penumbra".

Opening the EP, "Manticore" is a throbbing, pulsating affair that bounces effortlessly along its near eight-minute journey with grooved bass line and ticking percussive cadence. A white noise shaker and open hat combination enhances the rhythm section further as the hypnotic collage forges a relentless path. Synth lines rise and fall in the upper frequencies, reaching a tension-filled crescendo at the mid-point before dropping back into a sumptuous dance floor filler in the second part.

The title track continues Lanvary's penchant for "deep and groovy dishes" as a wonderfully evocative bass line makes its presence felt beneath deceptively simple rhythm in "Penumbra". Light melodic touches meander enticingly across proceedings before a loquacious vocal verse from Chris Maroo hits at the breakdown, then recurring in phrases throughout the third and fourth movements.

A stripped back 'Dub Mix' is the final addition to the EP which accentuates the delicious rhythm section and rapid fire hi-hat percussion that makes its mark as "Penumbra" evolves. Furthermore, the stepped melodic sequences of the original are brought fully to the fore in the absence of the strong vocal content of its predecessor, while simple vocal cuts are retained to supply depth and atmosphere in a rich and powerful offering.

As Lanvary step once more into the light, a partial eclipse sees "Penumbra" shine brightly.

Montreal artist @Kora-musique takes the next steps for recently launched New York label Earthly Delights, an imprint centred on spotlighting talents pushing the boundaries of electronic blends. The Canadian producer and DJ picks up the mantle from Yor Kultura, who provided the labels first release in a three tracker titled 'Odyssey'. Kora comes to the label after the well received 'Nuit D'Afrique' and 'Ovo' on Kindisch in November. He treats Earthly Delights to two original cuts in 'Fragile' and 'Vayu'. The pair have already seen much support  from the likes of Acid Pauli, Hernan Cattaneo, Oliver Schories, as well as heavy rotation on the playa. White Ocean founder Timujin supplies the remix action, reworking his own top notch version of 'Fragile'. Today, we're very excited to present to you in full premiere 'Fragile' in its original mix. This is an incredibly emotive cut, which fuses two distant worlds in one exquisite concoction. Soft pads, beautiful rhythms and a distinct eastern vibe mark the latest footprint in the journey of the young music maker. Release date - January 16th, 2017.

‘’Andrea Ljekaj returns to New Violence armed with three new weapons. The Croatian producer has landed his work on such esteemed labels as Get Physical and Save Us, and being a firm label favourite here, is welcomed back with open arms. The title track 'Hills Have Ears' is a groovy techie affair, with shuffling beats, nasty bass hits and dubby overtones. The track develops as warm and infectious pads glide effortlessly across the groove, generating a blanket of happiness to wrap around you, as amile will certainly ensue. An uber cool track thats very versatile, and of course damn hot. 'Never Too Early' is next up, and if its a bit of a swagger you desire, then check this little number out. Its all about the vibe here, as you sway along to its hypnotic overtones, laced with dirty touches, and brought to light by cool vocal samples. Simple and effective. Rounding things off nicely we have 'Road Of Desires'. Melancholic tech house is order of the day here, as the melodies have warmth yet a tone of darkness flowing through. The big distorted pads enhance the emotional content further, as a bit of a dance floor moment lands, before we slam back in to action.’’

Reinier Zonneveld gets in touch with the spiritual side of techno, channeling airy grooves with new age influences in his Centaur EP.
Calling on the vocal prowess of Deva Premal, a musician known for her meditative spiritual new-age style, Reinier succeeds an unusual combination, pairing his trademark dynamic techno soundscapes with the songstress’ ancient Buddhist and Sanskrit mantra chants in Invocation.
Teaming up with Dutch veteran Secret Cinema results in Extreem, an upbeat and cloudy slice of mesmerising, straightforward deep tech that leaves no room for layovers. Dark synths, relentless basslines and cavernous elements come together to forge the perfect late night ambiance.
The eponymous title track comes in third, set forth by a chopped up vocal sample paired with a tight-knit lead line. Incisive sound bites introduce a sharp synth sequence that swiftly takes over and establishes itself as the central motif and relentless earworm.
A fitting finale to the release, The Groove stays true to its name, unfolding as a wavy melody with zig-zagging layers and sinuous details. Spring-like particles wonder about on a backdrop of rolling bass and hard hitting, punchy drum pads, crafting a piece that’s equally immersive as it is dance-inducing.

(uk)Sounding the promise of long days ahead and late nights to follow with its opening salvos, Chloé’s The Dawn heralds the return of the Paris-based DJ and producer, and a new dawn in her ever-evolving career.

Indeed, The Dawn is her inaugural release on her own label Lumière Noire, which she recently set up as a separate entity and of course for her infamous Rex Club night, which has since 2014 become a bit of a club house for Parisian electronic music fans. Operating Lumière Noire as a fully-fledged label will enable Chloé to release a new full-length album (of which The Dawn is the lead single) sometime in the next few months.

Over the ten-plus minutes of The Dawn, a spoken-word track languishes over melodic washes in a dramatic progression that evokes a novel, or noir-ish cinema – a method that the producer has taken a shine to since Take Care. This cultivation of the strange and the beautiful has become her calling card, putting her in a league with likeminded producers, who take the basic tenets of techno and inject them with their own singular poetic visions. A visual-arts analogue could be found in Noémie Goudal’s photographs which grace the EP’s cover as they will Chloé’s upcoming releases.

This stirring aesthetic gives The Dawn a slightly cerebral dimension, which is taken to new depths by Dixon’s stubbornly technoid remix. The Berlin-based whiz kid, who has over the last few years risen to the top of the international electronic music scene, inverts Chloé’s light-drenched, full-bodied production into a tense, captivating chiaroscuro.

The Dawn can also be explored via the “Chloé * IRCAM V2: The Dawn Interactive Mix” installation, which embodies Chloé’s music as an intimate interactive experience. It is one of the first offshoots of a constantly mutating collaboration between Chloé and the IRCAM Institution (www.ircam.fr/) that began in 2015.

'Abusir' is the twenty-second release of Aftertech Records by the upcoming heroes Di Rugerio and The Note V. This duo originating from Mexico have really found each other in this EP. Rugerio’s inspiring melodies work very well with The Note V’s deep and groovy sound. And who better to make a remix for these amazing talents than Th Moy. All together they deliver one hell of an EP that is both suitable for dreaming away at home and blowing you away on the dance floor.

The title track starts out like a dream with mesmerizing yet uplifting synth work. It doesn’t take long before the groove joins in and the journey to ‘Abusir’ begins. A deep and jumping bassline slowly blends in when suddenly the track turns back to its basics. Later melody after melody is introduced working in perfect harmony, bringing you into a state of rapture. A masterpiece for sure!

'Abusir' is the twenty-second release of Aftertech Records by the upcoming heroes Di Rugerio and The Note V. This duo originating from Mexico have really found each other in this EP. Rugerio’s inspiring melodies work very well with The Note V’s deep and groovy sound. And who better to make a remix for these amazing talents than Th Moy. All together they deliver one hell of an EP that is both suitable for dreaming away at home and blowing you away on the dance floor.

The second track ‘Saqqara’ is the more powerful of the two. Right from the start, the beat takes control. A massive blowing synth dictates the melody, screaming of power. Then halfway an ominous arpeggio comes in, which glues the bassline and melody altogether. This in combination with clever and strong percussion work this is a track to be reckoned with!

Why do we tell stories?

We breathe, we eat, we sleep. We seek connection. These are our basic human needs.

But there is one more need we all share, and it centres on stories. All across the world, stories are being recounted everywhere, in every imaginable way, at any given time. For telling stories is at the very essence of what it is to be human.

The universe of stories can be broken down into seven basic plots which underlie all stories ever told. Recognising these patterns is the gateway to unravelling the universal symbolic language from which all storytelling is spun.

With Voyage & Return, Chapter 24 returns with seven tracks collected from artists across the world to bring these themes to life. 

This broad-ranging edition of the series spans storytelling electronica from Peruvian Luis Leon, while NO GRAVITY and Olivier Weiter offer two variations on the broken beat theme. Meanwhile, label newcomers Yacine Dessouki & Alani make their own contribution with the organic house of the powerful opening track. 

Elsewhere big dancefloor cuts are offered by QUARTZ and Several Definitions, before deft emotional composition from Christopher Ivor brings the compilation to a clean and satisfying close.

They say that there are only seven basic plots but a thousand different stories. 

And so, as the storyteller utters that age-old, magical phrase "Once upon a time...", let yourself be carried away…

Th Moy has definitely put his own stamp on ‘Abusir’. In this remix, he took the original melody blending it together with a long and growling bassline. Throughout the entire track, it keeps growing in strength. An arpeggio keeps building tension until that moment when it all explodes. Th Moy screams of a melancholic story in this wonderful remix. A perfect ending for a great EP!
