#capillary is a recording of a sonified environment prepared for the participatory data visualisation #capillary by artist Brad Miller, producer and sound artist Ian McArthur (aiffhead) and programmer Adam Hinshaw exhibited in Sydney June 7 - July 20 2013.

#capillary is a responsive space featuring crowdsourced visual data (images) and a sonified audio field created from sixteen unique compositions created while travelling on public transport around Sydney. The compositions are constructed from fragments of digital noise, field recordings and audio compositions and additionally processed by a sound patch (granular synthesis) that segments and reassembles them into new configurations, and responsive juxtapositions.

Recorded circa 2003 soon after returning from living in China, this composition harks back to really early material I created with tape machines, short wave radio and other found sources.

In three short movements, this composition is an attaK of static, noise, riffage and noises from the deep with some wise words thrown in for good measure. Recorded in Shanghai sometime in 2001.

Cortex

I've recently made an effort to try and develop more understanding about complex systems and emergence and have been practicing developing some (ironically) rudimentary computational models using java. This recording alludes to thinking about how that might apply to code and music.

Hive

Although this recording was originally generated completely from within SuperCollider, those of you who know will realise there's been a fair bit of production as well. Mainly to decide which glitches to leave in - or take out, to moderate/modulate some pretty crazy divergences in amplitude, and of course to bring out some of that lovely bass. Other than that I'm pretty speechless. What is this?
