Another cool label debuts on our platform, peeps: Based in Edinburgh, Fresh Take Records brings Josh Twigge-Molecey and George Protheroe working together under the alias Sonic Juncture for its forthcoming release. Hailing from Brighton and Banbury, respectively, the dynamic duo has pulled together “Time I Stare”, an eclectic EP in which the lads competently amassed their House, Electro, and Italo Disco influences. The one & only British producer Tech Support supported providing a mind-boggling remix.

“I'm Glad”, the track we were requested to review/premiere, lives up to its name and made us also extremely glad about its upbeat aura. An acid-infused breakbeat beauty with a classy saxophone layer to set the mood. The vocal hook is the icing on the cake: We recommend you sing “I'm Glad” along like a mantra. You are probably going to draw some good vibes upon yourself, something we all must be in need of at this ungodly hour.

Burger Steak is back with his second ever release for us. The BS-Style can be best described as a suspenseful blend of slowed down DnB, Electro and jazzy early 70s movie soundtracks. Krypton8 is the darker tune here with Sci-fi pads and mysterious bleeps and noises. Krypton87 almost has a song structure with distorted lyrics on top (if you can make out what they say, the drinks are on us), mandolin (sic!), brass instruments and flutes and its overall vibe remind us a bit of early Yello recordings. We hope you enjoy these two beautiful pieces as much as we do.

A Little Bizarre w/ James Rod

Andy Compton is undisputedly one of the hardest working producers in dance music. With over 40 albums and 150 EPs released either solo or as part of deep house legends The Rurals, the Bristol-based producer just can’t stop creating profoundly funky and vibey music that works on loose limbed dancefloors, beach bars and shag carpets alike. He has appeared regularly on quality labels as diverse as Lumberjacks In Hell, Hed Kandi, LARGE and naturally, his own vital imprint Peng.

Andy’s latest long player for Tangential Music is a collaboration with LA artists Irantzu Pujadas and Brad Kent under the name Blue Dream. Aptly titled ‘‘A Trip To LA’ the album is a deliciously louche and laidback twelve tracker of pure LA heat. The project began as many great ones do, without a plan. Visiting Brad’s studio to check out his huge vintage analogue synth collection in search of new sounds for The Rurals, they got to thinking...and jamming. With Brad on the dusty old drum machines, Irantzu on the microphone and Andy in his synthesiser heaven, Blue Dream was born. Their first and equally good album ‘California Dreaming’ was released on Peng in early 2019 and now we are here with a second round of perfectly realised dream-like grooves. Think of the sun-facing vibes of Shuggie Otis, Eddie Chacon, Bobby Caldwell or Roy Ayers at his most relaxed and add a passionate knowledge and experienced grasp of electronic forms. They make this seem easy goddammit.

‘I Wanted To See You’ sounds like Khruangbin with a 303, ‘You Want Me Back’ with it’s midtempo shuffling groove, saucy squidge bass line and seductive soul house vocal is pure daytime at Houghton Festival happiness, like Crazy P in the hot tub. At no point are we required to sweat. Lie down if you must, stand up and sway if you’re ready. This could be lovers music or just for you alone. Irantzu’s vocals throughout are whispers and purrs, evocations of humid love drenched in reverb and easy living. Sunset music.

The singles ‘I Wanna Go Home’ and ‘Sandwich Dub’ don’t deviate far from the endless feeling of hazy cinematic sunshine, one a sultry plea for intimacy, the other a heavily dubbed out slice of musique française amour. ‘Trip To LA’ with a vocal more than suggestive of the Balearic classic ‘Sueno Latino’, spare guitar chords and a prodding repetitive bass line creates a feeling of slinky bliss. Every track is full of sensual melodies and the space required to be truly funky. Press play and invite a bit of California magic in.

PREMIERE: LOVE APE - Daydreaming (Joe Morris Remix) [Rugged Society]

Manchester native Loz Goddard has been crafting high quality releases since 2015, garnering early support from the likes of Mr. Scruff, Mike Huckaby, Move D and Session Victim. The ever-eclectic producer has since partnered up with esteemed labels such as Seb Wildblood’s Church imprint and deep-house institution - Quintessentially, Loz has since reinvented his sound with an experimental edge and a penchant for live instrumentation.

His latest work has been manifested in the form of the ‘Balloon Tree Road’, an LP set for release on Oath - purveyors of visionary electronic decadence, heavily conceptual and forward-facing in their creative output. We caught up to hear about his latest work, next to premiering one of the album tracks.

Those tasty Glasgow types Manakinz (Sub Club legend Harri and Max Raskin) are back with their third EP for Monologues, filled with another three beguiling, heavyweight, innovative belters.'Electric Bob' kicks off with the dreamiest of chords and heady vocal delays floating over a chugging groove, before 'Lovely Lugz' takes things in a moodier direction with Hamish Hay's infectious afrobeat-flavoured guitar licks, tribal percussive rhythms and a stomping bass groove. 'Nifty McPherson' rounds the EP off in tripped-out style, with hypnotic FX and bugged-out synths bringing a psychedelic edge to this varied EP.
