Sally works at the post office
Where the blue-grey walls have started to peel
Smiles and laughs exchanged but no one knows if they’re real
Gaze in through the doorway
Her blonde hair shines against the dull
As she is handed a letter
Her discontent will show

‘Cause she hates looking at a blank face
But she’ll afford that same professional grace
She wants to scream, to cry, to escape
But who will open up the gate?

Late one night in the post office
Sally’s all in her head, she’s filling with dread
She can’t say why, but the ceiling’s too high and the walls are closing in
So Sally runs from the post office
Grabs 5 letters to go, doesn’t know who they’re for
The rest stayed undelivered, just like she wanted them to

‘Cause she hates looking at a blank slate
That’s why she’ll disappear without a trace
She’ll scream and cry as she makes her escape
She can open up her own gate
Her own gate

She’ll never look back

The Gate

Now she’s locked away in a dungeon so cold

I miss the angel, wish she’d return

She was your saving grace

When I talked myself off a cliff, she covered my mouth with her hand

Maybe that’s the way it needs to be
They can see right through everyone, or that’s just what I think
