DI.FM's Top 15 Hard Techno Tracks February 2025

Finally releasing my opening set recorded live on Saturday March 8 2025 for COMPOUND X KLOCKWORKS warehouse party somewhere in DTLA.

The journey begins in an atmospheric expanse—soft synth pads drift like slow-moving clouds. A deep, sub-bass murmur hums beneath, barely perceptible; adding texture, immersing the listener in a meditative state. The tempo is undefined, time suspended.

A muted kick drum emerges, cushioned by reverb—a heartbeat from the void. The tension is subtle, anticipatory.

The bassline evolves into a looping, cyclical pattern, repetitive yet morphing subtly with filter sweeps. A hypnotic synth arpeggio locks in, its phrasing just off-grid, inducing a trance-like state.

The kick slams back, heavier and more distorted, now flanked by a modulating acid line or a dissonant staccato stab. The rhythm is relentless, but the dub textures keep it organic.

The techno groove is locked, but the dub elements warp and smear across it. The kick decays into echoes, the bassline unravels, and the track collapses back into the ambient void from which it came—leaving only a fading drone and the memory of rhythm.

Coutts / Gordon Coutts is a DJ / Producer from Bangor, Northern Ireland, who has a been fixture of the NI club scene for over 25 years, playing at events all across the UK and Ireland and beyond, including Godskitchen, Planet Love and Ibiza, and headline sets at many events.
He started DJing in the 90's and shortly began playing local gigs around the North Down area, securing his first residency at the Knightsbridge in Newtownards. He properly made his name in the mid 2000's onwards with his distinctive brand of Tech-Trance, with a string of successful releases on labels such as Vandit, Spinnin, Fraction, Aria, Tangled Audio and many more, with support from most of the big players.
In more recent years he has fully embraced his Techno oriented side and has been primarily releasing and playing under his 'Coutts' alias, with releases on Hydraulix, Refined Format, Resilient Recordings, Physical Techno Recordings, Mechanikal and Pure Dope Digital amongst many more.
Gordon is A&R for ‘Keep On Techno Records’, taking on the role in 2022 after being a core artist on the label.

The first edition was in 1995 when 8,000 people attended (and in 2001 90,000 visitors). Dance Valley grew rapidly, both in duration and number of visitors.
