Metrik’s highly anticipated second album ‘LIFE/THRILLS’ released on Hospital Records is an exhilarating and flawlessly executed evolution of his signature sound. Under the banner of drum & bass it draws on his love for film soundtracks, synthwave, neo-soul and the Japanese pop sub-genre, Shibuya-kei and includes collaborations with Elisabeth Troy, NAMGAWD, Roméo Testa, Ragga Twins, Rothwell and Reija Lee.

‘Electric Echo’, a collaboration with Fightstar’s Dan Haigh and Alex Westaway’s synthwave side project Gunship, encapsulates the ethos of the album merging the unfamiliar with D&B sensibilities to create a fresh and exciting new sound. We also welcome the return of Elisabeth Troy in 'Chasing Sunrise' and Reija Lee in 'Cadence' making for two powerful vocal highlights on the record. For those of a purist nature, fear not; Metrik’s sophomore album is one hundred percent drum & bass and he hasn’t forgotten about the dancefloor. Bangers like 'Western Jam', 'Fatso' and 'Destination Earth' make up a serious proportion of the album’s generous fifteen tracks and reinforce his status as one of the heaviest producers on the block.

Over the past year Metrik has travelled the world representing drum & bass at major festivals of all denominations; from Glastonbury and Global Gathering to Outlook and EDC Las Vegas. All the while crafting remixes for the likes of DJ Fresh, Ellie Goulding, Gorgon City and Martin Garrix, and collaborating with fellow D&B superstars TC and Netsky. Fans of his UK Dance Chart Top 20 debut 'Universal Language' will find plenty to love here however its Metrik’s devotion to creating a fresh and thrilling strain of drum & bass that stands to bring in a new audience and earmark 'LIFE/THRILLS' for instant classic status.

"They only watch because our love is so primitive"

'Primordial' is the latest single from nu-disco hit machine Tim Bernhardt, aka Satin Jackets, and sees the German producer reunited with North Carolina based singer Niya Wells. Combining some of the best beats and basslines in the business with a smattering of piano and some delicately swirling strings, Tim has produced the perfect setting for Niya's sultry, lovelorn vocals. The end result is an electrifying house track that goes down easier than the first cocktail of the night, sure to soundtrack the summer.

Talking about the song Niya explains, "A few months after the release of 'Never Enough'  Tim sent me several new tracks and I immediately gravitated towards this track. While writing the lyrics, the word 'primitive' kept coming to mind, I wasn't completely sold on it for various reasons – one reason being the negative connotations tied to it – but I just couldn't release the idea.

There's much to love about those moments that don't require much thought. Those rare experiences with individuals who just happened to show up at the right place, at the right time, seeking, craving that primal connection and that's what I wanted to capture with this song. No one should ever feel the need to censor themselves or miss out on life changing happenings, for the sake of conforming to the demands of those who don't matter. Tap into that primitive energy! Live your life, and see what you connect to!"

Whether producing modern balearic house anthems such as 'You Make Me Feel Good', seductively soulful tracks like 'Through The Night' or bonafide poolside classics like 'For Days', Tim has established himself as one of the biggest names in the modern disco scene clocking up more than 25 million streams of the debut Satin Jackets album, 'Panorama Pacifico', on Spotify alone.

The 4th edition in the acclaimed Sterns Edits series sees curator Ben Gomori open up the Sterns Music catalogue to other keen re-editors — with Brownswood / Worldwide genius SMBD (aka Simbad) the first to step up to the plate.

Nigeria's Segun Adewale is sometimes referred to as the 'crown prince' of Jùjú music, but in the 1980s he developed a sound all of his own, which we called Yo-Pop. A mixture of Jùjú, Funk, Reggae, Afrobeat and Jazz, its vibrant melange can be heard on his 1986 record 'Ojo Je', where both these originals are taken from. Here, Gomori takes the uplifting 'Atewo-Lara Ka Tepa Mo'se' for an extended hypnotic, tribal trip ready for the blend. On the flip, SMBD delivers two superb chops of the title track — a gritty Funk-fuelled 'Disco' version with live bass, and a deliciously deep dub-house version. 

The stunning artwork was penned by Kofi Ankobra, who grew up in Ghana and studied art at Oshogbo, Nigeria — the place Adewale himself was born.

Another very special EP on Al Zanders A to Z label! Teaming up this time with vocalist Sheyi, for a one-off foray into Broken Beat territory.The story of its inspiration begins with a trip to Notting Hill Record & Tape Exchange...

After asking for some broken beat, the assistant ventured a withering opinion that "won't be monotonous enough, try the house music section instead" Turns out it was Phil Asher of Co-op fame - who, after establishing a genuine desire for said genre - sold Al a bunch of West London music which became the influence for this EP.

Allowing Sheyi to shine over a bare bones, syncopated rhythm track on the title cut and an equally stripped down 'Satisfy' Al amps up the groove, with the G.I.T dub, which was made for IG Culture's radio show.

Limited run on these - don't snooze!

Today marks a special moment in Bolting Bits history for us. We are now lucky enough to premiere a track from our very own - Igor Bezuglov! For those that do not know, Igor is one of the major pieces that keep our music blog running behind the scenes. But being a man of many talents, he has been working on his own productions the past few months to deliver us his first tune under his alias @igorbmusic.

Titled Ponteio (which means "bridge" in Portuguese), this song is the A-side of Igor's debut record Águas de Setembro that is set to come out on Peter Croce and Moonlighter's Detroit imprint Rocksteady Disco later this month. Throughout the piece, Igor utilizes the Brazilian original's rolling bassline, impromptu instrumentation, and bittersweet vocals to capture what everyone's feeling this time of year. Although many of us understand that cold months lay ahead, we are also eager to keep the good times going no matter what - and it's this palpable optimism that makes the song the perfect soundtrack as we transition from summer into autumn across the northern hemisphere.
