The 4th edition in the acclaimed Sterns Edits series sees curator Ben Gomori open up the Sterns Music catalogue to other keen re-editors — with Brownswood / Worldwide genius SMBD (aka Simbad) the first to step up to the plate.

Nigeria's Segun Adewale is sometimes referred to as the 'crown prince' of Jùjú music, but in the 1980s he developed a sound all of his own, which we called Yo-Pop. A mixture of Jùjú, Funk, Reggae, Afrobeat and Jazz, its vibrant melange can be heard on his 1986 record 'Ojo Je', where both these originals are taken from. Here, Gomori takes the uplifting 'Atewo-Lara Ka Tepa Mo'se' for an extended hypnotic, tribal trip ready for the blend. On the flip, SMBD delivers two superb chops of the title track — a gritty Funk-fuelled 'Disco' version with live bass, and a deliciously deep dub-house version. 

The stunning artwork was penned by Kofi Ankobra, who grew up in Ghana and studied art at Oshogbo, Nigeria — the place Adewale himself was born.

Icelandic producer Intr0beatz gets tapped to contribute to the 'Cryptic Cuts Vol.1' compilation from the Mysterious Works imprint, supplying a bumping house cut titled 'Start To Make Sense' that has strong dancefloor appeal.

Since emerging with releases on Dark Energy Recordings, Something Else Records and most recently Lagaffe Tales, Intr0beatz is proving to be a rising force exploring various shades of soulful motifs and jacking rhythms. Now with his latest work 'Start To Make Sense', he's turning up the energy with a track that's already a favorite with the like’s of BBC Radio 1’s Artwork.

'Cryptic Cuts Vol.1' compilation, which also includes tracks by Chicago Damn, JANK & Simba, Jonna and Darran P, is set for release September 10.

Today marks a special moment in Bolting Bits history for us. We are now lucky enough to premiere a track from our very own - Igor Bezuglov! For those that do not know, Igor is one of the major pieces that keep our music blog running behind the scenes. But being a man of many talents, he has been working on his own productions the past few months to deliver us his first tune under his alias @igorbmusic.

Titled Ponteio (which means "bridge" in Portuguese), this song is the A-side of Igor's debut record Águas de Setembro that is set to come out on Peter Croce and Moonlighter's Detroit imprint Rocksteady Disco later this month. Throughout the piece, Igor utilizes the Brazilian original's rolling bassline, impromptu instrumentation, and bittersweet vocals to capture what everyone's feeling this time of year. Although many of us understand that cold months lay ahead, we are also eager to keep the good times going no matter what - and it's this palpable optimism that makes the song the perfect soundtrack as we transition from summer into autumn across the northern hemisphere.

A free download as part of Sune's (@emilsunesson) forthcoming 'Mimosa Kuriosa EP' on Live Ones. Unfortunately, due to sample issues, this track didn't make it onto the wax. The full five track 12'' is due out in November.

Hailing from the coastal Swedish city of Malmö, Sune steps forward to provide a fourth EP for Lorca’s Live Ones. With his Mimosa Kuriosa EP he serves up 5 masterful disco and soul inflected rhythms that’ll hit all the right spots.

Having previously provided his signature sunshine grooves for Better Listen, Kyoku and his own Honey Butter imprint, Sune is fast building a reputation as a prolific purveyor of funk.

The EP shows off Emil Sunesson’s ear for playful samples and infectious grooves. Dusty, heady drum programming features heavily across all five tracks, employed subtly on the laid back ‘Bring Some Tea’ while unleashed to devastating effect on the upbeat ‘The Way U Make Me Feel’.

There’s something for everyone on this versatile, enigmatic EP from a talented young producer that we’re sure you’ll be seeing plenty 
more of in time to come.

@art-alfie joins the @ToyTonics crew! Widely recognized for his work on Studio Barnhus, the Swedish producer released his debut album in 2017 on Axel Boman's label and a slew of hot tracks with longtime partner in crime, Mr. Tophat, before that. 
This New EP of his is 4 killer tracks that got us frothing the minute we heard them. But the track we're gunna focus on today is 'Like I Said' an emotive and beautiful deep house cut, filled with cut up string arrangements. It sounds like an Ode to 'Deep Burnt' and we're totally down for that.

Austin Ato is Scotland’s latest next big thing. Although this alias is fairly new with releases only popping up over the last year or so on labels such as Phonica White, Futureboogie and Me Me Me, Austin’s actually a veteran who has been releasing records for over a decade under various pseudonyms. In the past, he’s released as Drums of Death, Frankie Dreams and The Slumberjack. That explains why his output already sounds so crisp and polished. His influences vary, leaning heavily towards disco but also taking bits from a multitude of sources such as afrobeat and beyond. One thing is certain though, his productions are built straight for the big room dancefloor.

His latest release, “Ella/Putting It In My Way”, forthcoming on the ever prolific Delusions of Grandeur is no different. ‘Ella’ takes a catchy disco riff and turns it upside down into a peak time stormer. The big synthy horns and mallet style percussion fit oddly well together, further evidence that Austin is not afraid to combine elements that don’t traditionally fit together. Our premiere today and the second single on the release ‘Putting It In My Way’ is a vocal bomb, combining both spoken word and the catchy hook after which it’s named. A deep sub bass and big swelling pads as well as the bloopy, percussion-heavy break only help to further cement it as another surefire party track.

For its 4th release, Piff Records recruits from as far afield as possible, tapping Adelaide-based Subjoi who adds to his already diverse and sought-after discography. He presents a set of tracks that are somewhat of a departure from previous releases, employing a UK Garage sound all the way from Australia.

A1’s “Give It To Me” uses side-chained pads to form a perfect loop while melodic wooden block sounds dance around. Assisted by Adam Emil on percussion, “Paradise” whips up the notch on the UKG vibe before giving way to the record’s B side.

The EP’s title track, “Swerve” sits nicely above the most subdued sounds of the record. It’s an ethereal cut with barely-there vocals, the kind that’s saved for the very early hours; first light coming through to a gently swaying dancefloor. “Tears” – it seems of joy, not sadness - dips in and out of halftime, with breathy jazz instrumentation, similar to “Swerve” as an early hours selection but here, as the uplifting closer.
