Anyone out there need a soundtrack for their rebellion?

I am delighted to share an all vinyl non techno mix that was a long time in the making. Every record collected over time, filling in the gaps of my collection of the music I wish I had access to when I was younger and deeply questing for good music. The photo is 35mm film my mother was shooting of our family when we were moving from California back to the midwest when I was 15 years old. That move would mark the beginning of upheaval and a very tumultuous time in my life. My older sister left the family leaving me with her old cassette tapes of New Order and Depeche Mode and then my parents packed up a moving truck to take us out to Indiana where I would meet my future husband Christoph briefly before we were uprooted again. After our California move, my parents split up and took my brother and I down to Texas. The next years of high school my parents got back together and moved us back and forth between the midwest and Texas so many times that I went to 7 different high schools in the span of just a few years. It was a crazy time for me to experience the different flavors of racism and bigotry that rural midwest and deep Texas had on display after growing up on the west coast. I was called many names and shunned because of how I looked and dressed. I knew that it was ignorance and just soldiered on waiting out the clock until I could turn 18 and make my own life. All the way through, I always took refuge in music which acted both as medicinal therapy and artistic inspiration for me. Although I will say the selections were lacking, when we were living out in the middle of nowhere. Not an independent record store in sight. No internet in those days. Music was salvaged from anywhere you could possibly get it, including thrift stores, pawn shops and garage sales.

In the Shamanic traditions, a Shaman will go into the astral plane to retrieve parts of your soul that have fragmented due to pain and trauma. I’ve been working with that modality and am deeply fascinated by the parallels that I see between this ancient healing art and djing. These selections came together as a soul retrieval of sorts. With this mix I am reaching into the astral plane beyond time to when I was in high school with the sonic remedy I needed to get through the chaos.

I hope that anyone who hears this enjoys this Wax Report and perhaps your high school self will also get some healing from these selections.
