Wire’s new mini-album, Nocturnal Koreans, is striking in its diversity, the band fluently negotiating an expansive stylistic range, from immensely catchy pop to ambient introspection and beyond. Chronicling a sleepless night that Wire spent in a seedy Boston-area hotel on their 2013 US tour, the title track is the kind of charging, urgent tune that’s always been vocalist-songwriter Colin Newman’s forte. The lyrics, by bassist Graham Lewis, make this one of guitarist Matthew Simms’s favourites on the record, largely because of the associated memories: “It’s a great snapshot of touring America and when I hear or play that song, it reminds me of the many weird and wonderful times, places and people that cross your path.”

Providence Rhode Island’s Cottaging return with the extra crispy “Headhunter b/w Mamajuana Nightcap 7”! It’s been almost a year since the release of the now sold out The Amyl Banshee E.P. The Amyl Banshee release tour saw the band convert even more contemporary music listeners with their pummeling live act and singular wild western apocalyptic style.  
The Headhunter 7” takes Amyl Banshee’s violent churn and flies it into the stratosphere. A-side “Headhunter” rides a wild saxophone riff into soaring choruses while telling the tail of the Snakecharmer and the Headhunter circling each other in a demon dance. Thanks to the amazing Rachel Lewallen for joining the band on saxophone for this banger.
