Old MiniDisc recordings of various DJ sets from 2000-2004 that I have kept in a box in some dusty dark cabinet and much later recorded into a WAV format to upload here on Soundcloud. Note that all of these mixes were recorded from vinyl via a DJ mixer into ATRAC, the native lossless compression format for MiniDisc. The quality is not perfect but it's great, it was the best affordable option for recording DJ mixes back in this era. Think of it as a digital tape :)

Alec Pritchard - MiniDisc Relics

Another old MiniDisc I just recorded in, having recently re-found my old MiniDisc player, a bunch of MiniDiscs and some spare time to burn!

I will be uploading many of my old MiniDisc recordings over the coming weeks under the "MiniDisc Relics" series, with sets from the years 2000-2004 when I actively used MiniDisc to record audio before it wound up on the technological scrap-heap of so-called "dead media".

This one was titled "Alec Pritchard > 003" in the metadata and was recorded on 22nd September 2000, a set of deep progressive trance records. Hope it brings back some good memories for those who were around this sort of music at the time! Certainly does for me.

The next in a tall pile of MiniDiscs to be recorded in and uploaded to Soundcloud. I really had to scratch my head and dig for a while to get this tracklist together as a lot of these records I have not heard for over 10 years! Thanks to Discogs and YouTube for helping me to fill in the blanks!

This one was recorded on 3rd November 2000. I have no memory of recording it at all...

Alec Pritchard - MiniDisc Relics 02 (03-11-2000)

I hadn't uploaded one of these old MiniDisc recordings for a while... so thought the time had come. This was a recording of a live set I played at a really nice 4-storey old venue in Leicester called "Original 4" that was in a mock-tudor building that split a street into two (a bit like Times Square, NY). This set was in the main ground floor room of the venue, which had a really nice booth and soundsystem.

I remember getting this gig simply by taking them a demo MiniDisc and they got back to me to say they liked it. You could do that back then and this was how I got most of my gigs, taking them something with a personal touch... I don't think it works like that these days. This was recorded on Saturday 3rd May 2003.

Alec Pritchard - MiniDisc Relics 03 - Live @ Original 4, Leicester (03-05-2003)

Yet another old MiniDisc recorded in, this one was labelled "Deep, Trippy Tech House Mix! :-|", pretty self-explanatory. Used to have a vast amount of this kind of deep, dubby, techy house music and stupidly sold most of these kinds of records around 2006-2007. To this day I am constantly buying them back again... I have learned my lesson not to sell any records because even though you may have become bored with them after a while, they become part of your soul and you miss them when they are gone.

Still more MiniDiscs to be recorded in and uploaded, which I will do sporadically over time rather than all in one quick burst. Hope you enjoy the mix, I'll try to remember track ID's for anyone interested! :)

Alec Pritchard - MiniDisc Relics 04 (23-10-2003)

A live recording from 2004, this would have been the first 1 hour 20 minutes of a 5-hour set at a really nice lively bar that was called The Common Room in the West End of Leicester. I used to play almost every Friday here for about 2 years... was a great little spot, brings back good memories listening to this!

Just found this MiniDisc from a live set at Thekla in Bristol in July 2000.

Remember it was a really nice sunny day and it was totally packed and very hot, also that it was mixed on those lush, too-good-to-touch gold-plated Technics 1210's.  All vinyl. And I was 16 years old. That is all.

I also love all kinds of eclectic stuff including disco, boogie, Italo, synth pop, nu jazz, jazzdance, lounge, trip-hop, downtempo, dub, reggae, jungle, liquid drum & bass, IDM, electronica, Warp, Ninja Tune etc.

In summer 2013 I set up the Avenue Red (@avenue-red) imprint to push quality material from a wide plethora of DJs and artists who I have particular respect for in terms of their musical output, artistry and dedication to the cause.
