Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community: Accept no limitations others may place on you. Glass ceilings are made to be broken. If you can see it, you can be it. If you can dream it, you can scheme it. Seek like minds but don’t be afraid to color outside the lines. Somewhere between familiarity and the edge of your artistic comfort zone is where innovation comes from. Going beyond your comfort zone may take you into new directions you hadn’t considered or at least taught you something new.

This conversation between Shivangi Mariam Raj and Steven Salaita reflects over Palestine by examining how settler colonial logics are coded within language — ranging from the limits of human rights framework to conditional solidarities, from visual grammars of sanitized victimhood to academic censorship, and more. We also discuss the defiant vocabulary of resistance, as embodied by Palestinian armed rebels, prisoners, and scholars. 

Steven Salaita is a Palestinian scholar and public speaker based in the U.S. He has previously taught at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Virginia Tech. This track played second in the sound performance Laboratory(Mars) which happened on February 28th, 2023 a day after the annual celebration of Dominican Independence Day. The performance was made up of five distinct sound moments and Internal Radiation marks the middle of the performance. 

This track is composed of original field recordings from above the East River and Williamsburg Bridge in New York City, interior recording of radiator and air conditioner, original bass from sound software, and altered samples from scholar Dixa Ramírez D’Oleo's lecture on Indolence.
