Originally self-released as a 7’’ in 1982, Plath release is definitely one of the obscure gems of the Italian underground.
Plath were a duo from Prato, formed in 1982 by Silvia Innocenti (voice, bass guitar) and Fabrizio Lucarini (synth, drum machine). Plath were influenced by Throbbing Gristle and early Cabaret Voltaire works, moving in between two essential thematic actions: first, the constant search of a sound which aims to reflect the current reality as they were interpretating it and, second, the constant exposure of their anarchist ideological thinking against the established political and social system.
While the A-Side includes the original single in full, with the classic ‘I Am Strange Now’, recently unearthed by Alessio Natalizia/Not Waving in his monumental ‘Mutazione’ compilation released by Strut Records in 2013, the B-side instead contains a killer percussive edit of Alessandro Adriani made for the most crazy mental dancefloors..

Harshly edged and unforgiving, title track 'The Healer' conjures all manner of sinister sonics over its 9 minute duration. Searing 303s run white hot and caustic atmospheres thicken and intensify with ominous growls of overdriven bass and distorted vocal transmissions. Drums increase in ferocity, evolving from stripped-back and skeletal to aggressive and unrelenting, thrashing violently as the track reaches its apex. Something that stands out is the clarity of the mix: elements that might be cumbersome or cacophonous are easily heard, all the while managing to retain Fallbeil's intended menace.

Originally released in 1990 on Doremix Records, Techno Bert was the studio project of Robert Passera and Stefano Cundari, co-owner of Memory Records and mastermind behind some italo disco classic names like Hipnosis, Koto, Faxe. Stefano Cundari unfortunately died of cancer on the same year of the release.

"Neue Dimensionen" was developed on Siouxsie & The Banshees's well-known guitar riff of 'Happy House', in a techno crescendo, where the duo would have enjoyed inserting as many samples as possible by stopping only when the capacity of the sampler Akai S1000 memory would be full. While Cundari cared for the sounds from the 48-channel analogue bench and assigned modular effects to the tracks, in studio there was also the musician Stefano Carrara who piloted the keyboards and the Notator installed on the Atari computer. The couple started the work by sampling the Human League "Being Boiled" groove, and built on harmony and melody inspired by Siouxsie & The Banshees with a Jupiter synth to which they added a low reinforcement obtained with a Roland TB-303. The drum set was based on Roland Tr-909 samples. The sample of the voice comes from "Herrmann Hiess Er" by Nina Hagen, cutting and pasting vocal fragments all around the track, from which they got the name 'Neue Dimensionen'. 

Even though it was distributed by Flying Records, only the most attentive clubs talked about Techno Bert single. Many discovered it the following year through the Belgian press on Target that circulated in almost all of Europe, or through the Spanish version of Spitfire.Even without big sales numbers and without any radio passage, the song continue to survive by virtue of a subtly underground connotation.

Luna is a new release by Aber Wann on Fulmen Records. The original track is a spell, a chant of worship to the Moon: Aber Wann, as a witch, takes strength from the Goddess and subdues her enemies with the powers of the night. El Fulminador takes the song one step further into darkness, expanding the spell with the echoes of a distant choir and piercing melodies flying over the mysterious whisper of unknown creatures. As a finale for the ritual, Andres Komatsu transforms Luna into a cathartic rapture of ecstatic possession, inviting listeners and dancers to let go, lose their minds and visit the depths of netherworld for 5 minutes and 17 seconds. Aber Wann is a producer, DJ and video editor from Argentina. A Fulmen collaborator since the early days, her work includes acting and editing on some of the most acclaimed music videos produced by our house, and also being part of our DJ crew. With her debut EP, Aber Wann proves she’s got the rhythm, the style and the darkness flowing through her veins. Not to mention the words in classical Latin language, an all times favourite at Fulmen Records.

Todd Nickolas and Dominic Paterson were born and raised in rural South-Western Ontario Canada, an unlikely setting for the kind of leftfield music they grew up with and eventually produced. They had the good fortune of having older relatives into alternative underground music, so much of the late 70s and early 80s were spent plundering record collections and making mixtapes. Todd and Dominic met in high school, geeking out over each other’s Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode shirts. In 1987 they started making music together, which wasn’t easy to categorize as their personal styles and musical tastes were constantly evolving. From synthpop and EBM/industrial, to electro and early hip hop and house music, to post-punk and dub and all points between, whatever the duo encountered was embraced enthusiastically. The transition into the techno and ambient years of the 90s was therefore a natural one, their early influences always finding their way into their productions one way or another in addition to the new sounds they were creating. The rave era was a revelation for them, because there they found their people and scene. The anything-is-possible optimism that went along with it coincided with a general twentysomething feeling of youthful euphoria about a world full of possibilities. Infinities of Life was originally released in 1994 as part of the 12” Universality EP (Floorshaker Productions). This percussive techno-trance track perfectly captures the xtc euforia that swept across warehouse dancefloors back then.

Swiss duo Psycho Weazel drop two eccentric cuts on the Argent Sale imprint entitled ‘Race/Stracciatella’. The story of Psycho Weazel is that of a musical thunderbolt between two sensitive guys who radiate captivating productions from their studio nestled on the shore of Lake Neuchâtel that can be found on labels such as À Table, Paradise Chilren and Le Jour Me Nuit. Psycho Weazel are an upcoming Swiss duo who grew up at the foot of a mountain and produce radically universal music that’s been supported by the likes of Curses, Red Axes, Who Made Who, Tushen Raï & Cornelius Doctor, Simple Symmetry earning then gigs at venues around the Swiss region. Heavy but delicate, powerful and light, rigid and groovy, these two tracks are the story of a paradox.
