As a youngster, disappearing into the background had always been a talent of his; he'd managed to perfect the art of invisibility. While others preferred to stand out from the crowd, he preferred to follow them instead, he had no qualms with being a sheep. This all changed later in life. His peers and their antiquated opinions began to grate on him, he could no longer remain mute. But wasting his breath on these so-called friends was pointless, he simply wanted to break away.

It's been 10 years since French duo Scratch Massive released their seminal Nuit De Reve LP. Featuring guest vocals from the likes of Jimmy Somerville, Daniel Agust, Koudlam and Chloe, the release was an embodiment of Scratch Massive's approach to new wave, electro and slo-mo house. Now, a decade on, the pair have drafted in several products to reimagine the original tracks, offering a new perspective on their cinematic sounds. Amongst those featured on the remix package are Innervisions Ame, Dark Entries affiliate Bézier, The Populists, Thomas Schumacher and Vilnius hero Manfredas, with the reworks stretching from progressive house to raw electro, cosmic disco and pacy techno.

At the end of 2019, just before the world would be turned on its head by the Covid pandemic, Berlin-based label R.i.O shared their first various artists compilation Risks Issues Opportunities. Since then they've gifted us solo outings from the likes of Philipp Otterbach, Benedikt Frey and Tim Toh and Chris Imler, but now they're returning to the VA format for their first release of 2022. For the second iteration they welcome eight new artists, including Airaboi, Willie Burns, Bocksrucker and Twoonky, all of whom deliver abstract and intriguing electronic compositions that colour outside of the lines.

Paris-based imprint @globalwarmingrec starts the decade looking at the future, with a bass-infused Various that compiles four avant-garde club bullets from artists and friends close to the label.
The release is opened by @malcolmaudio , curator of the EP and label honcho, who gives the mood with a slomo post-rave break, where ethereal vocal samples, acid pinches and a loud reese bass are smashed by a hostile kick storm.
Then, the one-man band performer and unpredictable producer Ouai Stéphane delivers an epileptic reinterpretation of his drum and bass roots. His signature bleeping sounds and self-made vocals elements are here chopped over by a frantic pump bass and complex drum patterns. A landmark for the guy.
After what, the dark child Slowglide, previously heard on Antinote or Comic Sans Records makes here his Global Warming debut, delivering the perfect anthem for Gotham City nightclubs, merging industrial mood and codeine effect into one.
Finally, closing the whole thing, Parisian badman Jon Beige delivers a mental half-time gabber creature, where a bone-crusher rythmic section blends with thrilling industrial jams, sci-fi atmospheres and a haunting vocal, at the speed of light.

Playground Records presents its 29th reference. A complex release full of crazy modulations and sticky rhythms produced by the Ukrainian artist ID_UA. The EP contains 2 originals plus 2 hypnotic remixes by the English Kincaid and the Greek Anatolian Weapons.
The kickoff is given by the beats of ‘Anyway’. The ritual begins. The percussions plays in the jungle with a fat bassline. Stranger voices jumps into the scene. Sharp synths cuts the air. We get lost in the mantra. A strong gallop presents ‘Crazy Fields’. A powerful bassline joins the cause. Weird voices fights against mad frequencies and acid touches. The intensity grows. Mystic pads give us shelter. The storm has passed.
Kincaid takes ‘Anyway’ and turns it into a trippy downtempo break. Low drums interact with modulated vocals. A heavenly piano says present. The air between the instruments give us a moment for the imagination. The rhythm kidnaps us and is not interested in accepting any ransom.
The remix of ‘Crazy Fields’ comes from the hand of Anatolian Weapons. A psychedelic ode full of lysergic landscapes. Advanced electronics for the journey. Metallic congas for a futuristic salsa. Almost a religious experience.

Flippen Disks follows up their much acclaimed label-debut with an intriguing second release by Yuto Takei named “Bells From The East EP”.
Yuto Takei’s first vinyl release displays a wide array of sounds with a particular interest in rhythmic experiments and the negotiation of sonic space.

The Tokyo-based producer and DJ takes the listener onto a trip through deep spheres, percussive workouts, jammy compositions and electronic psychedelia, leaving the listener at times startled as to whether it is humans that are manipulating machines, or vice-versa.

Having worked as an electronic music composer for video games such as Gran Tourismo, this uncanny valley is known territory for the artist. It is, however, further explored on this four tracker, staying true to Flippen Disks paradigm of releasing club-oriented music, non-functional enough to not only be danced but also listened to.

Title track Bells From The East is an 8 minute jam, in which a krauty psych attitude pairs up perfectly with the goofy lead melody.

Animaux is a six track release by Justas Jelisejevas, it’s his second self-released mini-album that revolves around topics of animate reality, visual arts and music.
The idea for the release came into fruition through sonic experiments made in the past while looking for ways to substitute human singing with other sounds. In simple terms animals are the singers and lead
performers in each track.
The instrumental parts of every track are made to support vocalizations of animals and animal voices are chosen to resonate with digital instruments. Animaux explores and interprets wild animals trough electronic music.
