softly framed in seafoam
steeping in twilight

the rarity of weightless overcast
receding into previous day

I am pulled between the edges of then and now
complacently losing the battle

and I place a bowl on that granite
with water seeping through its pores
half-washed
porcelain in defeat

pray I go back down and think a way out
but the waking hours escape me
for once turn the right way,
you flake, you human life

thank the paper blinds for sparing you the shame
of months and months gone by

The desire to become a better human being, longing to actively participate in the world around you, striving to actualize your potential, and finding meaning in this process. Over the past 4 years, these have all been things I've struggled to bring to fruition due to my own shortcomings. Nascent is the embodiment of all the emotions which emerged from this struggle.

Writing this album eventually became a source of this conflict. As I created the music which was supposed to help me find peace, I watched the rest of my life begin to atrophy. In many ways, Nascent is also about the writing process and its consequences. Despite this, I would like to believe I've come out the other end having grown because of it.

I am changing. I am learning to be willing, learning to take the shackles off. Who I am and who I want to be are starting to feel like the same person. It's been an insane journey and I am so grateful for it. Thank you everyone for your enduring support and patience. I hope this music finds a place in your life.

I started writing this song in the spring of ’22. This time was spent listening to the music of Yuki Kaneko and Manuella Blackburn while immersing myself in the flowering local grasslands. I was struck by the delicate, secluded intimacy of Yuki’s album “rut”, the jaw-dropping detail of Manuella’s “Formes audibles”, and how this music accentuated the surrounding landscape. I tried to capture this feeling and the sense of renewal it inspired while honoring these wonderful artists.

The release of this piece is also an announcement that I am in the process of creating my debut album, which includes and is represented by Cycles.
