Healing Song

This song is in Quechua (the people’s language spoken mainly in the Andes region of South America). I first heard the language when learning about Shamanism from the Q’eros of Peru in 2012. This song uses words that the Shamans use when calling upon energies to open sacred spaces. They use animals to symbolise directions and chakras and call upon the snake (south), the jaguar (west), the hummingbird (north), the eagle (east), mother earth and father sky (masculine and feminine polarities). 
I wrote the melody staring at a fire one late night and then added the words later, inspired greatly by the wisdom of the ancient Inca knowledge.
In 2015 I had the great pleasure of travelling to Peru to work with the Shamans, record this video and learn more about the simple ways of this ancient science.

This song is tuned in 432Hz which therefore means that it is mathematically consistent with the universe. The ancient bells from Peru used in this track were already tuned to this frequency and so we therefore tuned all the other instruments to match the 432Hz tuning. Music that is tuned in 432Hz transmits healing energy because it is in exact mathematical frequency and vibration to the universe, as opposed to the 440Hz frequency tuning that is most commonly used today. Music therefore tuned in 432Hz frequency is known to be more relaxing, healing and softer for the human being. It is known therefore for it's healing qualities.

Esta canción es en quechua (la lengua que se habla en Perú, principalmente en la región andina de América del Sur). La escuché por primera vez cuando aprendía  chamanismo Q'eros en Perú en 2012. Esta canción usa palabras que los chamanes utilizan al convocar energías para abrir espacios sagrados. Ellos usan animales para simbolizar las direcciones, los chakras y el llamado a la serpiente (sur), el jaguar (oeste), el colibrí (norte), el águila (este), la madre tierra y el cielo padre (polaridades masculino y femenino).
Escribí la melodía mirando al fuego tarde en la noche y añadí la letra más tarde, muy inspirada en la antigua sabiduría inca.
En 2015 tuve el gran placer de viajar a Perú para trabajar con los chamanes, grabar este vídeo y aprender más acerca de las formas simples de esta antigua ciencia.


Esta canción está sintonizada a 432Hz. Esto significa que es matemáticamente consistente con el universo. Las antiguas campanas de Perú utilizadas en esta pista ya estaban sintonizadas a esta frecuencia, por lo cual sintonizamos todos los otros instrumentos para que coincidieran con la afinación en 432Hz. La música que se sintoniza a frecuencia transmite energía curativa, porque como vibra en una frecuencia matemática exacta, vibra con el universo, a diferencia de la sintonización en 440Hz, más comúnmente utilizada en la actualidad. Por lo tanto, la música  sintonizada en esta frequencia 432Hz parece ser más relajante, curativa y más suave para el ser humano; es conocida por sus cualidades sanadoras.

Not exactly catch phrases for today’s calculating, media savvy and self-promoting generation of musical artists, but a way of life for singer-songwriter Alexia Chellun. Eight albums into a productive 12 year journey, she has ridden her wave of trusting and practicing life from a different angle into an entirely new recording experience that has yielded her latest EP, Who Am I? 

As a performing artist Chellun has the ability and patience to follow her instincts without expecting immediate results. This doesn’t mean Chellun lacks a diligent work ethic, but substantiates her belief that having a plan is not necessarily a guarantee for success. Chellun says she “ doesn’t exactly have a ‘calculated vision’, or a lyrical agenda, but she trusts her creative process and that her artistic unpredictability will lead her where she needs to be at any given moment. I’m relaxed. I’m not trying. I’m just singing!” Chellun effortlessly switches between traditional song-writing and the more structured mantra based recordings and she admits the creative process still confuses the hell out of her. “It's all about flow and wherever it takes me I follow.” 
Throughout her song-writing, Chellun exhibits a unique melodic pop sensibility combined with lyrical themes that examine the human race, consciousness, and awareness. She makes an unarguable point when she says “Oneness has no genre.” 

Letting go of constraints, welcoming new experiences without expectation, self exploration, and complete trust in the creative process have been the cornerstones of Chellun’s musical philosophy and life. Her deep and soulful vocals, uncluttered arrangements, and natural dynamics are the perfect companions for her enlightening observations.
