here is another outtake from 1999. take 2 of the song TO THE TEETH. there’s no band kicking in to play an outro at the end. it’s just me and my bass player JASON MERCER sitting on the landing above the stairs at kingsway studio in new orleans (now long gone) playing the song.
a few notes on this 23-year-old tune:

the glorification of the gun-wielding cowboy, gangster, vigilante… the reinforcement on the nightly news of the threat of poor people, black people — turning the terrorized into the image of the terrorizer is NOTHING compared to the toxicity of FOX NEWS and an unregulated internet. i just had no idea — as none of us could’ve in 1999 — how far fear-mongering and hate speech could lead us. 
when you encounter hate online — say something —do something. when you see fox news on in public spaces — complain — say something — do something. when you hear the lies of fox news regurgitated out of people’s faces — say something — and most importantly: VOTE.
VOTE FOR PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT GUN CONTROL. STOP VOTING FOR PEOPLE WHO TAKE MONEY FROM THE NRA.
voting is our superpower and it is under threat. the very foundation of democracy is under threat. there are more and more brilliant, young, diverse, dynamic and courageous people stepping up and running for office every day. support them, get behind them, spread the word — wherever they are. we are all connected.

The enigmatic Tennessee-raised, Turin-based Yves Tumor presents a poignant new album, recorded between Miami, Leipzig, Los Angeles and Berlin over the past three years. 

Evolved from a diverse and prolific creative history under an expansive plethora of covert aliases via various forward-thinking labels, 'Yves Tumor' emerges as his most personal and matured incarnation to date.

With involvement across various artistic outlets expanding to fashion such as a visceral live performance for LA's Hood By Air earlier this year, the global artist has built a distinctly bold personal aesthetic both musically and visually as a performer.

Painstakingly written from pieces developed upon since 2013, the new record, titled 'Serpent Music', was initially composed as a soul record - based around delicate and emotive songwriting in various forms. It was a highly difficult project to undertake on both a creative and personal level, weaving thematic links through paranoia, social anxiety, and missing loved ones. "The songs come from a much more emotional and very vulnerable place... They're very close to me and I've been cautious of how I would eventually present them to the world." he explains. 

The album spans sonically diverse and richly-textured pieces, formed from live, organic instruments, samples and various field recordings. Dreamlike lo-fi psychedelia sits alongside broken electronic experimentations, ambient compositions between abrasive noise offer insight into a haunting otherworld. From melodic choral vocals and soaring synths, to screeching guitar riffs, dramatic spoken word samples and live drumming, 'Serpent Music' evidently moves through a strange and intriguing personal journey.

The album is mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M, featuring photography by Daniel Sannwald.

As the globalised economy churns in swells ‘neath our feet, suturing us together and tearing us apart, heads angled hellward, we bellow, Algiers!

Algiers is the danse macabre between here and nowhere, movement and stasis, order under hell, and chaos under heaven. The situation is excellent.

Algiers is a band of musicians born in Atlanta, Georgia, the rotten hub of the Ol’ American South, where W.E.B Dubois once saw a riot goin’ on, and where the hell and highwater swirls ‘round to the knees.

Holed up in our perches in London, New York and a small town in France, plague up to our necks, we conjure the dead sound to life.

The click clack of the keyboard brings us to worship. The shrieks of slaves and rebels pummeling through.

Our tongues, twisted in the service of Paul Robeson, Lee Moses, Selda Bağcan, et al, slur a call in the darkness.

Algiers is the experimental gospel noise soul pulp response, slurping Francophilia - Gainsbourg and Dutronc, Saint Just and Fanon, Badiou and Baurdillard - Black Power - Nina Simone, Public Enemy, James Baldwin, Fred Hampton, DJ Premier, and Fela Kuti – and Southern Gothic - William Faulkner, Nick Cave and Flannery O’Connor - into a stew thicker than bourguignon in the Algierian sun.
