Ecstatic Dance is renowned for a musical journey that incorporates a variety of styles and tempos of music. The journeys are usually 2 1/2-3 hours long - this set is the second half of a journey so it starts pretty mid-tempo, works its way up to a higher energy section, and then comes back down to a sweet ambient landing. I play a lot of Ecstatic Dance sets and I realized I hadn't posted a recent ED set in a while. So here you go! This features a sneak preview of music from my forth-coming album "Feminine Medicine™" and some of my favorite producers of the moment .

Ecstatic Dance Set - Fall 2015

Ecstatic Being / Facilitator / DJ

 These Live Sets are intended works of art in progress, made for dancers, vulnerably offered in recorded form for you to experience & dance to on your own terms. 
While a baby-fresh new DJ, I create these entirely improvised in the moment. I stand by this method on principle, as an ecstatic dancer,  that this is a valid and thoughtful point of view on how a journey is not one way, not linear, logarithmic, nor algorithmic. It really can’t be rehearsed; the moments of dancers energy matters and make the call through the field, a ternary code : 0 : 1 : 2, inferred and decoded as :: No : Maybe : Yes.

Attunement to this field is essential for that ecstatic union between dancers, just as The fabric stretches and tears at the edges where beauty and chaos co-mingle. Yes, dance is poetry, dance is an emotion in play, and it is our partner, the music, and our facilitator, the DJ, who skillfully and deftly handle the dialectic. 

Music moves forward, beat and undulation,  horns and strings. Music is a relentless force, and we best handle with care. 

The DJ ought be a polyglot, speaking the language of Musica, Rhythm (in its infinite patterned complexities), of Frequency & Melody & Harmony, and the ineffable stories they weave. The language of technology, of the electronic machinery that carries the Music to us. 

The DJ ought be a dancer, someone who wants to move as Wild and free as the Dancers before them. 
The DJ ought be an ecstatic soul well travelled through this life and others. 
The Dj ought be a rock and a willow reed, a flowing river and massive bonfire. They Fly with the wind, and grind deep in the magma and tectonica. 
The Dj ought be attuned, with all 9 senses activated; our work is towards grasping & implementing the 10th 11th & 12th.
The DJ ought be funny, a pranskter, a jester, a social mirror to the absurd reality of our lives as we know it. 
The DJ ought be a scientist, methodical and inquisitive, impartial to right or wrong but only to what is. Posessing the competence of a mind geared toward objective truth, and gifted with the fine-tuned instruments of introspection of psyche and able to humble themselves to the subjective.  
The Dj ought be grateful. Full stop.

This is my pledge as a DJ, as a Dancer first and foremost, and as a vessel and facilitator of Musica.🙏🏼🫀🫶🏽

ALIA is the visionary behind Feminine Medicine™, a series of collaborative albums and stage shows that brings more feminine voices to the dance floor. So far she has collaborated with over 30 artists for the albums and the stage shows and she has released “Feminine Medicine Volume 1” and “Feminine Medicine Vol. 1 Remixes”. Feminine Medicine Volume 2 is currently in production.
