The Failed States is a creative project based in an aged care facility in the leafy suburb of Wantirna, Melbourne Australia. 

Initially a recreational outlet, allowing residents to express themselves through music, poetry and sitting still, The Failed States has since taken on a life of it own. 

Anguished songs about other residents' grandchildren being too loud at the table tennis table, or laments of lukewarm, semi-set pudding were gradually replaced by powerful pieces about climate change, urban decay, relationship breakdown and stolen dentures.

There are no permanent members of The Failed States, we live on, as age, petty rivalries, and forgetfulness takes us all.

The Failed States tries to perform in the common room on the second Tuesday of every month, after lunch.

Alina Valentina is a The Hague based music producer drawing heavily from retro soundtrack and video game music. With her love for analog synthesizers she creates immersive, neo-surrealist “Lynchian” sound explorations reminiscent of modern composers like John Carpenter as well as more pop contemporaries Antoni Maiovvi, Lebanon Hanover and Molly Nilsson. Influenced by industrial music, synth pop and dark wave, her work blends camp sensibilities with melancholic and detached vocal delivery

When most were learning to shave, Dank Matter was honing his DJing skills. The Glaswegian cut his teeth at the knee of the mythical turntablist and DMC finalist: DJ Bunty. Having left crowds dripping and bellowing for more in his native Scotland, an intrepid seventeen year old sailed to The Netherlands to unleash his mixing mastery in Amsterdam. From these beginnings, Dank Matter has left basements buzzing and towns and cities thumping the length and breadth of the European continent.
 
An unorthodox DJ with an ear and style like no other, Dank Matter explores everything electronic. Acid. Disco. Ghetto. House. Italo. Electro. Techno. Wave. No sound is left unturned. This passion has manifested itself in many forms. The brains behind The Unit, an infamous afterhours bunker in the belly of Glasgow’s Southside, Dank Matter has also hosted parties with talent like Detroit in Effect, The Exaltics and The Hacker (to name but a few.)

If he isn’t swashbuckling on his technics or organising events, he’s with his baby: Schrödinger’s Box. Set up in 2015, the imprint has been a haven for homegrown talent as well as a beacon for international artists. As a taster, releases include Adrian Marth, Andreas Gehm, Anton Maiovvi, Cute Heels, Hard Ton, Mark Du Mosch with music from AC Meadows release having even featured in a Vogue promo video with Kim Kardashian.

A seriously skilled practitioner that guarantees unheard dynamite and machined fireworks, Dank Matter will leave throats raw, speakers sore and the crowd eager for more.
