I present to you for the World Piano Day 2021 a wonderful Jazz standard from the 1960's called "Make Someone Happy"
Written by Jule Styne for the 1960 Broadway musical "Do-Re-Mi"
Played by many but most notably recorded by the amazing Bill Evans for his album Alone (Again) (recorded in December 1975 but not released until 1977)

This song is inspired by "Dream Catching", a previously released collaboration between Thommo, Ren Faye, and David Dunham. This song is my truth, a message from a father who gave everything and still felt it wasn’t enough. 
It’s about all the fights no one saw, the nights spent worrying, the sacrifices made in silence, and the love that never stopped, even when it went unnoticed. 
Every line is a piece of that journey, the pain, the hope, the stubborn belief that one day you’ll understand how hard I tried and how much it cost me.

It’s not about being perfect, it’s about loving someone so deeply that you’d carry every burden just to give them a chance to stand strong. “Sorry If I Couldn't Reach You” is my heart on the table. It’s everything I couldn’t say out loud.

This song came from those late hours when you start missing someone without meaning to. 
It’s about watching a person you love grow, move on, and build their own life, while you still feel their presence in the small places they once filled.

The melodies follow the feeling of distance mixed with hope. 
A soft guitar, gentle piano and warm strings carry the memories of old phone calls, footsteps in the hallway and the way a room can still hum with someone’s voice even after they’re gone.

Miles from home, but never forgotten. 
This is a song for anyone who still listens for a voice they miss.

This song was written during a Christmas that felt quieter than it ever should. 
Not because the world stopped, but because something essential was missing. 
The decorations went up, the days passed, and everything looked the way it always does at the end of the year, but inside nothing felt settled.

It comes from not knowing whether to reach out or stay silent. 
From standing with a phone in your hand and realizing that even love can hesitate when fear and uncertainty take over. 
It is about the kind of silence that hurts more than words ever could, the silence where you do not know if your child is okay, hurting, safe, or simply changed by time.

As a parent, there is something deeply wrong about not knowing whether to send a Christmas gift. 
That question alone carries shame, longing, hope, and heartbreak all at once. 
This song lives in that space, between memories that still feel real and a present that offers no answers back.

It is written for my daughter, from a place where memories are still warm but no longer speak. 
From wondering who she is today, what life has given her, and what it may have taken.

I did not write this song to place blame or demand explanations.

This is the most meaningful and heartfelt of any song I’ve written since I first learned how to play guitar way back in 1988. It's dedicated to my parents and the enduring love they shared for 60 years. My father passed away in March 2025 and it's been really hard watching my mom grieve and try to live on after losing her soulmate and best friend. It's been especially difficult over the holidays, our first without him. So I put all that emotion into a song dedicated to his memory and how much she loves and misses him. 😢💔
