They are Frank Cueto and Rusty Belicek. Together they form the funky and eclectic duo known as All Good Funk Alliance and we're very excited to have them in The Armory this week. Press play. Get down. 

"I wanted to represent what we did, do and are into", says Rusty. "I wanted to have midtempo breaks, ghetto funk, moombahton, hip hop, funk and everything that makes our sound unique. Hopefully people feel it.. I used some DC artists to give them some shine and even a twerk tune because that's what I like.. straight vibes." 

Made up of Frank Cueto and Rusty Belicek, All Good Funk Alliance has opened up for the legendary James Brown, written songs for Coca-Cola and appeared on the Breakspoll Top 50 list. In other words, these guys are no strangers to the funk. And while their musical tastes range the gamut, when Frank and Rusty join forces the end result is always the same: they deliver a sound that is funky, fun and fresh. 

All Good Funk Alliance has long been lauded by critics and fans alike, and DJs looking to inject flavor into their sets invariably seek out that unmistakable AGFA sound. Their remix of big band legend Woody Herman's track, "Mambo Herd," was met with critical acclaim, and the boys recently signed a major remix deal to put their indelible, funk-infused spin on Kraak and Smaak's hit album “Plastic People." When AGFA's release, "REC," dropped in 2007, Properly Chilled described it as "modern funk mixing the best of hip hop and funk [with] lots of percussion breakdowns." Turntable Lab has also raved about the duo's sound, summing it up as: “continually hitting the head-nodding nape." 

Since 1999, All Good Funk Alliance has released music on a host of labels, including its own heavyweights: Funk Weapons, Super Hi-Fi Recordings and Baffin Island Beat Brigade. Frank and Rusty have played at clubs and festivals around the globe—from Canada to Australia—and the pair has even opened up for the iconic godfather of soul himself, James Brown. 

Recognized as influential pioneers of the Nu-Funk and mid-tempo breaks sounds, AGFA's innovation and originality has earned them universal respect across the breaks industry. EN : Manganas Garden are with Archipelago and Skogsrå in the front of the new Scandinavian funk wave. Rooted in the glory of 70 ‘s disco and driven by Ame- rican 80’s R&B, their unique sound echoes in symbiosis with the classic Ver- sailles pop from Gothenburgs bay area to the beaches of Côte des Basques. The music is reminiscent of George Duke anno 1982, combined with the vibes of Phoenix, Lemaitre and Daft Punk.

A bit of musical nerdiness - Linear Composition

I took the concept of linear drumming (http://rhythm.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Linear_drumming) and applied it to composing a simple full track. Only one chord, drum hit, melody or bass note is allowed to be played at any one moment. Makes for an interesting forced minimalist approach. The end result is bit quirky but kinda fun. Conceptually not too far from early 8 bit game music with it's limited polyphony sound chips.

Recorded live at the KCRW presents "An Evening with Gilles Peterson" live radio show at Sonos Studio on the evening of May 23rd, 2013.  It was hosted by Jason Bentley and featured special guest appearances by Om'Mas Keith and Shafiq Husayn of Sa-Ra Creative Partners, Egon, Seu Jorge, The Decoders and many others.  

During the Decoders set, Seu Jorge joined the band in an impromptu rendition of his previously recorded cover of Roy Ayers' classic hit "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" 

Here is a portion of the magic captured from that evening.  Enjoy!
