Chapter 2: I search.

Of the Siraya people, Sandra Tavali is a former keyboardist of the classical ensemble "Indulge" and the well-know metal band "Chthonic". She is the composer for the TV documentary "Unknown Taiwan" produced by the Discovery Channel. Also, she was the artistic  director of the musical "Dark Baroque.”
 
She began her music learning in Piano, Electone, Theory with her father Prof. Mao-sung Lee. Her musical works crossover between classical and fine art, film and documentaries .  She started to work for theatre computer music workshops since 2013, encourage young musicians to work with deeper think-through creativities and collaborate with other international artists.
 
Ms. Tavali earned the Master of Music degree in Computer Music from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Where she studied computer music performance and composition with Prof. Geoffrey Wright. She had studied Pipe Organ and Harpsichord with Prof. Alexander Sung in the Music Department of Soo Chow University Taipei, and Piano and Electone with Prof. Mao-Song Lee  and Prof. Yoon-Ai Lee in the Music Department of Tainan University of Technology. 

Her compositions  "Ban Shan" was featured at the International Society for Music Information Retrieval 2014  (ISMIR, Taiwan),  selected at Sound and Music Computer Conference (SMC, Ireland), and featured at 2016 klingt gut! Symposium on Sound, Hamburg, Germany; "Dirge" was featured at the International Computer Music Conference 2015  (ICMC, USA), "River, Rim and the Earth" was selected at ISMIR 2015 (Spain), featured at New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival and New York Philharmonic Biennial, "The Wind Bloweth Where It Listeth （風隨意 )"will be featured  at WOCMAT-ISMIR 2016.
 
She is currently one of the curators of sound and music in Guling Street Avant-Garde Theatre, Taipei, also a faculty member of Fu-jen Unversity and National Tsing Hua University.

Lukas Nystrand Von Unge
Lukas Nystrand Von Unge (Nykarleby, Finland) is an artist who works in a variety of media. By using popular themes such as sexuality, family structure and violence, Nystrand Von Unge creates work through labour-intensive processes which can be seen explicitly as a personal exorcism ritual. They are inspired by a nineteenth-century tradition of works, in which an ideal of ‘Fulfilled Absence’ was seen as the pinnacle.

His artworks are often classified as part of the new romantic movement because of the desire for the local in the unfolding globalized world. However, this reference is not intentional, as this kind of art is part of the collective memory. By experimenting with aleatoric processes, he formalizes the coincidental and emphasizes the conscious process of composition that is behind the seemingly random works. The thought processes, which are supposedly private, highly subjective and unfiltered in their references to dream worlds, are frequently revealed as assemblages.

His works feature coincidental, accidental and unexpected connections which make it possible to revise art history and, even better, to complement it. Combining unrelated aspects lead to surprising analogies. By referencing romanticism, grand-guignolesque black humour and symbolism, he touches various overlapping themes and strategies. Several reoccurring subject matter can be recognised, such as the relation with popular culture and media, working with repetition, provocation and the investigation of the process of expectations.

His works often refers to pop and mass culture. Using written and drawn symbols, a world where light-heartedness rules and where rules are undermined is created. Lukas Nystrand Von Unge currently lives and works in Stockholm.
