Haha clever idea, and a nice way to sonify the feeling that the comic strip created. I wish I had come up with something like this for the project; I was busy and couldn't think of anything to do so I didn't submit anything.

"Usul: Aksak Routine"  is an algorithmic  performance of electroacoustic music based on the rythmic system Usul of Turkish music. The term usul, which includes both the concepts of meter (measure) and rhythm, defines the rhythmic elements of all the structured musical pieces of the system. Every usul is a recurrent rhythmic circle – something similar of meter in western music – a model with a name and a pattern. The usuls are performed in beats, known in Turkish as "darp". Also the usuls are named according to the length and form of their beats and they are divided into two main groups, Minor usuls and Major usuls. The minors are those of 2 to 15 beats. The majors are those containing from 16 to 124 beats. The goal of this project is the use of minor usuls to create diffrent major usuls in real time.
The current multichannel (4ch to 8ch) piece consists of 6 sound sources. Each one of them returns a different minor usul, with samples created using the physical modeling software Genesis and SuperCollider. Every darp (beat) produced with graining effects in SuperCollider.  The rhythmic patterns and the sound spatialization are generated with original programs and routines, written also in SuperCollider. For controller in performance I am using a multitouch OSC controller.

This is from a live improvised jam earlier today (Sep 4) with my Creatures Once bandmate Monstrosus. It was a great way to spent part of this Labor Day off as we feel Fall setting in here in the Northwest. To Juntofy this, I took two of his keyboard lines and layered and panned them opposite. Kept bass and few textures. Removed drums to leave some space. 
Looking forward to hearing what everyones makes this week, and what will come next week!

Disquiet Junto 0014: Sonic Narrative
 

Subject: This project, the 14th in the weekly Disquiet Junto series, is about sonic narrative. 
 

Instructions: You will re-tell a very short and simple story -- an anecdote really, an everyday slice of life -- utilizing sound. It will take the form of a single audio file uploaded to your Soundcloud account. You will construct this track in any manner you choose: with field recordings, music, effects, dialog, or a mix thereof. The story you will be re-telling is this single-page comic strip by Matt Madden:

In the process of re-telling the story through sound, you may interpret it in any way you choose. You can do it as straight narrative, or do an abstract rendition, or retell it from another point of view, or contribute a score as if it were a movie, or a record series of foley cues. The choice is yours.
 

Background: Matt Madden's single-page comic is the template for a book he created titled 99 Ways to Tell a Story: Exercises in Style. In the book, Madden told that same story 99 different ways, each in a different comic-book style. For example, he told it as a superhero comic, he told it as a manga, he told it as experienced from upstairs, and he told it as if it were overheard at a bar. Madden did this in homage to the French writer Raymond Queneau's own Exercises in Style, which is a key text of the literary movement known as Oulipo. Oulipo approaches the act of writing with intentional constraints, and the movement's approach to creativity was a strong influence on the development of the Disquiet Junto. Oubapo is the name of the comics version of Oulipo. What we're up to is the musical version: Oumupo

All sounds from recordings of my tongue drum. I had big groaning, creaking sounds in mind. Created in hotel room on day three of a power outage caused by falling trees after a windstorm. Took a walk and found this big pile of fallen trees by the river. So here's some droniness, some crunchy textures and a little melody because there's always some of that around. 
Experimenting with Ableton Live's warping modes for most of the sounds. Some delays and verbs. Rolled off a little low and high end. I hope its not too full and dense for someone to add more to it!
