Influences

I was deeply saddened by the passing of Keith Emerson. It has been a very difficult few months. We’ve lost several giants. This is a very short but potent homage I wrote for Keith several years ago. I am so sorry that I never got to share it with him. He was a giant as a pianist, organist and synthesist. His playing was outstanding and he gave us so much great music for nearly fifty years.

Looking back at my musical influences and I guess the most was ELP ,  Keith Emerson, Robert Berry,  and so many more .  It all started at 14 years of age for me.  But learning to play, and continuing to do so just a few years ago.    And though I will never be in that distinctive class I try and learn and learn... This is just an improv of those influences.  cheers G

Now retired from a life 'on the road' as a freelance keyboard player, I compose and record in my home studio, situated in the Carrick Hills in Southern Scotland. My music is mainly instrumental in nature and is a reflection of my life experience, sometimes real and sometimes imagined.
My influences are many and I have quite probably been shaped by listening to the very many "giants" of music, both players and composers. From classical to contemporary jazz and everything in between. My main instrument is the keyboard, whether that be piano, organ or synth. But I also play banjo, flute and percussion. I have a special relationship'with bass, whether upright or electric and use virtual and synth basses from numerous sources, but mainly Trilian by Spectrasonics.
