Playing in the upcoming Soul:ution hosted Room Two on Friday 23rd January the Chelmsford based drum & bass producer, LSB (aka Luke Beavon), has put together another stonker of a 60 minute mix to get everyone's palette back up to speed after the end of year break. Incorporating the sort of measured and musical music you can fully expect from a room that will also feature sets from the music man, Calibre, Marcus Intalex, Exit boss, dBridge and Manchester prodigy, Chimpo, LSB's mix builds slowly, layering tracks that really maintain an awareness and a sense of space.

Early April will see Italian imprint Amam offer up ‘The Modern Sound Of Yesterday’ EP coming courtesy of Germany based producer DoubtingThomas.

Aurélien Alain Francis Riviére aka DoubtingThomas has been delivering material since under this guise since 2008 most notably via reputable imprints like Metroline Limited where he made his start, Little Helpers, Archipel and Organic Music. Here Riviére makes a return to the Amam imprint following his ‘Capon’s Method’ EP earlier in the year, offering up more of his signature atmosphere infused, percussive led style.

Opening composition ‘Modulé’ sees DoubtingThomas kick things off with wandering jazz samples and growling bass drones running alongside low slung rhythms, whirring background sweeps and hypnotic vocal murmurs. ‘Sch'feld’ follows and lays its focus on smooth ethereal pad sequences, modulating percussive textures and a snaking sub bass groove laid out over its six minute duration.

Then on the flip side DoubtingThomas opens with ‘Anpe’ retaining a similar aesthetic to the preceding track with murky pads carrying the record, while resonant synth glitches and processed bell chimes add detail and charm to the record. Then to round things up ‘Miss Jikeli’ veers things into darker realms with menacing acidic bass licks, mind bending horn lines and a bumpy rhythmic swing.

As always expected from Amam imprint DoubtingThomas's ‘The Modern Sound Of Yesterday’ is forward-thinking and full of intricacies, set for release on the 6th April, don’t sleep!

We’re excited to share the Far Blue perception of Zürich-based Serenne with you today. After catching her live this summer, we were pulled in by the way she blends lush, dreamy sounds with darker moods. While keeping things subtle and immersive, she brings that same energy and depth to this one-hour mix.

“I recently had a conversation with Ben Kaczor, who mentioned an artist I hadn’t heard of before: Hilma af Klint, a Swedish visionary whose work immediately spoke to something inside me. Touched by her paintings, I printed two of her blue-hued pieces — The Ten Largest, No. 1 (1907) and Childhood and Primordial Chaos (1906–1907) — hung them above my setup, and started recording this one-take mix, letting myself drift into the world they opened.

But as I listened back, I found myself entering something else entirely — something that goes beyond those paintings — something deeper, something that transforms. A space beyond sight. That’s where the journey begins for me. And I hope that, for whoever listens, it becomes something personal too. Maybe even a small doorway to something deeper, something invisible… just as Hilma found through her art.

This mix also features beautiful tracks from many dear friends — I feel grateful for each of their creations.”

The Gazebo at Ambra night is one of the best places in the world the play and listen to Drum & Bass imo and being given the honour of closing this years Sun and Bass festival is a memory I will always cherish.Thank you all of the SAB staff for their hard work once again and to everyone who came and listened to me you are amazing bunch of people who always revitalise me and give me the inspiration to try and make myself a better DJ.
