The twelfth quick rough sketch for the groove of a new song for Proun+. This one Arno and I wrote together, and Arno played it live. Totally different sound from the rest because these are live instruments instead of programmed computer instruments!

I am making a ton of groove sketches and then I'll select the best to base complete songs on, so please give feedback on whether you like this one!

Proun+ is the extended version of Proun that is coming to 3DS, iOS and Android and is being developed together with Engine Software.

Qeaux Qeaux Joans was slechts zeven jaar oud toen ze haar eerste nummer schreef. Dit was het startschot voor haar muziekcarrière. Wegens dyslexie kon Qeaux Qeaux het lezen van noten niet onder de knie krijgen, maar dit maakte niet uit bij het spelen van akkoorden en het maken van structuren van nummers. Qeaux Qeaux heeft de gave om emoties te communiceren zonder er letterlijk over te zingen. Je voelt haar pijn en zij voelt de jouwe; dit is de schoonheid en kracht van haar muziek. Met haar warme maar rauwe doorleefde stem, zingt Qeaux Qeaux Joans recht je hart in. Op het album zijn invloeden terug te horen van Amy Winehouse, Antony Hegarty, Feist, Billie Holiday en Solomon Burke. Zelf omschrijft Qeaux Qeaux haar muziek als alternatieve Rhythm & Blues.

In 2011 stond Qeaux Qeaux Joans met haar band in het voorprogramma van Seasick Steve, nadat ze in 2009 spontaan bij hem op het podium was gesprongen toen hij in Paradiso te Amsterdam optrad. Steve was zo onder de indruk van Qeaux Qeaux, dat hij in 2011 zijn geboekte voorprogramma cancelde om haar mee te nemen en voor te stellen aan het publiek tijdens zijn Nederlandse tour. Dit leidde vervolgens tot een optreden in het nationale tv programma De Wereld Draait Door.

Vanaf haar 17de studeerde Qeaux Qeaux vier jaar lang aan het conservatorium in Amsterdam, maar besloot deze opleiding uiteindelijk niet af te maken. Als je een sterke overtuiging hebt over het pad dat je moet bewandelen, is er geen structuur of autoriteit die je daar vanaf kan brengen. In plaats van netjes de aangewezen negen uur zangles te volgen, stond Qeaux Qeaux ‘s nachts in Amsterdam met bluesmuzikanten te jammen. Ook tourde ze met Beth Hart en Keith Caputo, deelde het podium met Bobby McFarren en trad enkele jaren op met Wicked Jazz Sounds.

Het enige wat Qeaux Qeaux wilde was muziek maken en haar verhaal vertellen. Qeaux Qeaux besloot om samen met producer Reyn Ouwehand (Ane Brun / Wende Snijders / De Staat / Coparck / Monsieur Dubois) een album op te nemen. De opnames van het album vonden binnen drie dagen tijd plaats, waarin 80% in één keer opgenomen werd om zo het live gevoel te benadrukken. Hierna schakelde zij de hulp in van niemand minder dan kunstenaar Rahi Rezvani voor het maken van het artwork en persfoto’s. Rezvani werkte eerder al samen met James Blake, The Bloody Beetroots en heeft momenteel een project lopen met kunstenares Marina Abramović.

En toen was daar ‘No Man’s Land’, Qeaux Qeaux Joans’ debuutalbum en een platencontract bij [PIAS]. Dit gaf Qeaux Qeaux de bevestiging altijd je hart te blijven volgen.

Arno 'Ammo' Landsbergen (1973) is a music composer, audio designer and classically trained pianist. Early on he adopted a 'heavy piano' playing style that was inspired by ragtime and boogie music from the 1920's. He plays a variety of vintage keyboard instruments as a guest player on studio albums and stage productions. His work as a composer and producer is featured in games, film, theater and adverts.
