ANAMED Library Community Lectures - 2025

Bu konuşmada, insanların beslenme alışkanlıklarının tarih öncesinden günümüze nasıl evrildiği hem arkeolojik bulgular hem de güncel saha gözlemleriyle ele alınacak.
Tekeli'nin antropolog olarak görev yaptığı Erzurum Pulur Höyük kazısında günümüzden beş bin yıl öncesinde keşfedilen taş aletler, tarih öncesi insanların protein ağırlıklı diyetlerini ve bu diyetin insan anatomisine etkilerini anlamamızda önemli ipuçları sunuyor. Tekeli, benzer şekilde, Etiyopya’daki saha çalışmasında, günümüzde hâlâ taş aletlerle besin hazırlayan toplulukların, tarih öncesi yaşam biçimlerini nasıl sürdürdüklerine tanıklık etmiştir. Konuşmasında da, bu iki örnek üzerinden, avcı-toplayıcı yaşam tarzının modern beslenmeyle olan farklarını ve bu farkların insan üzerindeki yansımalarını tartışacak. Bu bağlamda, ANAMED Kütüphanesi’nde yaptığı araştırmaların, bu tarihsel ve biyolojik bağlantıları anlamada nasıl kritik bir rol oynadığını aktaracak. Geçmişten günümüze beslenme yolculuğumuzun izlerinin, bilimsel ve kültürel bir çerçevede sunulması hedefleniyor.

Evrim Tekeli

2017 yılında Ankara Üniversitesi Antropoloji Anabilim Dalı'ndan doktorasını tamamlamış ve şu anda Hatay Mustafa Kemal Üniversitesi Antropoloji Bölümü'nde öğretim üyeliği yapmaktadır. Araştırma alanları, biyoarkeoloji, fiziki antropoloji ve antik DNA çalışmaları üzerine yoğunlaşmaktadır.

Tarih Öncesinden Günümüze: Taş Aletler ve Beslenmenin İzinde - Evrim Tekeli

The presentation will showcase Lacchia’s journey from his upbringing in Piedmont to his influential years in Istanbul, highlighting his contributions as an architect, professor of drawing, and cultural mediator between Italy and Turkey.  Through a selection of visual and written materials, audience will learn Lacchia’s diverse portfolio of architectural works, his role in the Italian-Levantine community, and his research on Ottoman architectural and art history. Little is known in academic world about him, and the unearth of Tito Lacchia's private archive gave him the opportunity to start to explore the life of this Italian architect and his experience in the Levantine community in Istanbul, between the end of the Ottoman Empire and the rising of the republican era.

Luca Orlandi

He is an architect and architectural historian. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Genoa and obtained a PhD in 2005 from the Polytechnic University of Turin in the program of History and Criticism of Architectural and Environmental Heritage. He has been living in Istanbul for two decades and in November 2022 obtained the position of Associate Professor from the Inter-University Council (UAK) in Turkey. He teaches History of Architecture and Architectural Design at the Faculty of Architecture and Design of Özyeğin University. He is an active member of ICOMOS Italy and collaborates actively with various organizations such as the Alte Vie Foundation and PIMo (People in Motion). He is a Senior Tutor at the Piranesi Prize - Prix de Rome and between 2018 and 2019 he was invited for two semesters as a resident professor at the Polytechnic University of Milan. He has published (in Italian and Turkish) a monograph on the architect Sinan entitled: “The Landscape of Sinan’s Architectures” and several essays and articles in renowned collective publications and international journals. He often participates in conferences, seminars, and international workshops, both in Turkey and abroad, and has organized conferences and exhibitions related to the themes he studies. His fields of interest cover various topics such as Ottoman architecture and architect Sinan; Ottoman architectural heritage; Turkish architecture; Galata and Genoese colonies in the Eastern Mediterranean; Italian architects in the late Ottoman Empire and the early years of the Turkish Republic; travel literature in the Levant; the Levantine world and the conservation of architectural heritage.

Architect Tito Lacchia and His Experience in Istanbul (1913-1932)

This project explored the development of Christian religious architecture in the provinces of Palestine and Arabia during the early Islamic period (7th-9th century). The study focuses on newly-founded churches as well as religious complexes of the early Byzantine period that remained active after the Arab conquest. Tracing the evolution of Christian sacred space from the 7th century onward, it examines how resilient strategies and social transformation within Christian communities is reflected in their sacred built environment.

Sofia Thatharopoulou 

She has a PhD degree in Byzantine in Byzantine Archaeology. She has participated in numerous excavations. She was also an Erasmus intern at Koc University in Spring 2024.

Christian Sacred Space in Early Islamic Palestine

Stadia and gymnasia of Greco-Roman cities tangibly represent the primary heritage sources of one of humanity’s enduring types of intangible heritage: the heritage of sports. Despite their importance, these monumental complexes remain understudied in architectural conservation and history. This study examines their architectural evolution from the Archaic to Roman periods and investigates their transformation and preservation, particularly in Asia Minor. With the rise of Christianity, these pagan-rooted monuments were increasingly abandoned, repurposed, or dismantled, yet this transition was shaped by a complex interplay of political, religious, societal, economic, and environmental factors. Focusing on selected case studies, the work explores the afterlives of these structures into Late Antiquity and beyond, analyzing their continuity and decline through temporal theoretical frameworks and current preservation status. 

Başak Kalfa 

Başak Kalfa received her Ph.D. in Conservation of Cultural Heritage from METU in 2024 and has been teaching at Çankaya University’s Department of Architecture since 2016. Her award-winning master’s thesis (2017) was recognized by METU for its contribution to society and education. As a 2021–2022 Fulbright researcher, she conducted studies at the University of Pennsylvania and NYU. Her Ph.D. was further supported by AKMED and GABAM grants. Her research focuses on the conservation and afterlives of Greek and Roman architecture in Asia Minor, especially athletic structures, from Antiquity through Late Antiquity. She has participated in many excavations and serves on the Heritage Conservation Committee of the Society of Architectural Historians. 

Classical Monuments to Archaeological Ruins: Stadia and Gymnasia in Asia Minor

Condorcet'in on sekizinci yüzyılda önermiş olduğu "kamusal öğretim" programı, önce on dokuzuncu yüzyılda Fransız III. Cumhuriyeti’nin sonrasında ise tüm cumhuriyetlerin yurttaş tipini yaratmada öncülük yapmıştır. Bu bağlamda konuşmanın temel amacı günümüz dünyasındaki devlet ve piyasa ilişkileri karşısında kamusal öğretim ve yurttaşlık arasındaki ilişkiyi tartışmaktır.
