Our next guest mix is from our gifted friend and all round exceptional human, Zach Degnan aka Quincy Raw / @quincy_raw. Zach is one of the minds behind Brisbane/Meanjin-based label Pocketmoth, along with Iti Memon. The label has become known for its sonic diversity, and its focus on authenticity and connection. Some of our fondest dance floor memories in Brisbane have been while immersed in one of Zach and Iti's B2B sets :)

Zach said he used the recording of this mix as a self-healing session. Starting off free-flowing, soft and spacious, this two-hour mix builds so gently that before you even realise it, you're locked into a groove. 

"I guess I wanted to create a lush, comfortable, healing atmosphere with lots of little characters hiding in there (like some of the voices from Jimi, laurel halo, some more crime, actress tracks)"

Young Pulse @ La Madame Klaude (live Set) 2016.02.13

Podcast #62 features something a little bit different to our previous mixes. 

We've got Kiani & His Legion, aka Thomas Neyens, who was picked up by Red D on We Play House Recordings, and has released on other renowned labels such as Defected Records and Eskimo Recordings. Recently, he became one of the core artists of Nuno Dos Santos' Amsterdam-based "Something Happening, Somewhere" with an EP that was remixed by cult producer Fatima Yamaha. He also runs his own label, Tanzbar Records, on which he releases under his techno moniker Far Out Radio Systems and he co-organizes the notorious Taxi Tanzbar nights in Genk. His trademark melody-driven dance floor tools have landed in the bags of the biggest DJ’s, such as Laurent Garner and Sven Väth and his eclectic mixing style has led him to the play at the greatest European clubs and festivals, such as Berghain and Tomorrowland, amongst many others. With his first album coming up on We Play House Recordings and a subsequent live act being prepped, it’s safe to say that the future is looking bright for this young Belgian artist!

Thomas has recorded a mix that he says is inspired by old Cafe del Mar sets by the likes of Jose Padilla. 
"It's really only old music; ballads, samba, bossa nova, African music."

"Hairdressing is a show focused on cutting deep into particular musical strands. Each Hairdressing show intends to focus on the musical legacy of a particular artist, label or scene. The name 'Hairdressing' is a bad joke about both emulating an intellectual salon and playing some deep cuts.

The first show focusses on the music of Patrick Cowley. Cowley died in 1982, and was one of the first US public figures to pass away after a battle with AIDS. He has a legacy as one of the pioneers of Hi-NRG disco music, and posthumous releases of his music on Dark Entries records – lifted from soundtracks of gay pornographic VHS films – exhibit his talents as a brilliantly inventive and experimental musician. This show attempts to trace dots across his broad back catalogue."
